A tentative plan for the new college football postseason calls for a Pac-12 or Big 12 team to face the best team from a group of five conferences, including the Big East.

Here's what's ultra-important about this article:

"A person with direct knowledge of the plan for the four-team playoff in 2014 tells The Associated Press that either a Pac-12 or a Big 12 team likely will be the opponent for the top-rated champion from the Big East, Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt and Mid-American Conference."

If that holds up, and it is indeed the "highest rated Champion from the Big East, etc...",
then the chances of the Big East landing BYU are much higher.

We seem to be at the point where you have to look past the near future. If we have Boise, Houston, UL, RU, Cincy, UCONN and possibly BYU, can't we make some noise nationally? It has been controversial for years that Boise struggles to get to the national championship with a great record. If we have all these schools with great success/potential it will become very noticeable now that they are in one conference. Just RU and UL in the Top 25 is getting noticed. We can probably turn the injustice into an advantage if we are marketed properly. I liked Nelson's idea of adding Nevada and BYU. That makes this one hell of a conference on the field. Better than ACC and the PAC 12. From there you build the brands. We really need NBC to play ball on this.

Disclaimer- I'm 4 pints in. Stressful day.

@ArtDirectorBYU As I understand, BYU is not part of this or any other deal for access to this system. Going to have to their way in.

@BasketballJ0nes Excellent question. If Boise makes playoff, another team from the outsiude 5 leagues would replace.

Sounds like the Big East is already reaping the rewards of Mike Aresco as commish. He pushed for this 7th game and best of rest access plan.

@BadWillHunting @murphsturph This has all the makings of being the Boise State spot. Louisville, Cincy and Rutgers might beg to differ.

@ralphDrussoAP Larger point is BIg East now tied to lower conferences. Even if BE dominates and gets spot every year.

@murphsturph This or nothing. What's better? And if you're the Big East, you hope the TV deal provides the rest of the separation.

Brian Murphy@murphsturph
@ralphDrussoAP Right. BE vs. rest is terrible for BE. Only better for BE would be BE vs. Big12/Pac12 just like Orange. This is next best.

@murphsturph And in the Big East's mind, that's what it got. just in a round about way.

I know the following question is going to show how "Twitter challenged" I am, but how does someone identify who is typing the message to whom? Is the first name the sender, or is the name after the crossed out "@" the sender?

It is less clear after cutting and pasting, sorry. The first name is the person posting, and they include the twitter handle of the person they are addressing in the text of the tweet. or if it's a retweet, it'll either have quote marks or the letters "RT" in front of the retweet (usually).

Not agreeing with you on this one. ACC? Maybe, but whose is our Clemson & FSU? The Pac12????? Not even close to being as good as that conference, both at the top and also from top to bottom.
