Memphis

What an absolute joke the portal has become. Like why would he make this move? He can play anywhere he wants including Duke, Kentucky. Memphis is under investigation, they haven’t developed anyone. Emoni Bates has regressed. Total lateral move to play for an easier coach.

Apparently Ja Morant and Desmond Bane helped recruit him to Memphis which is why he mentioned Ja in the article. The irony being Bane played for TCU

That's strange. They don't currently play for the university and never did. They play for an NBA team in that city which has nothing to do with the school. Why would Morant and Bane care at all what players go to the school? And why would Davis get swayed by them?

Penny is probably someone they looked up to as kids. Wouldn’t shock me if the Grizzlies have a good relationship with Penny and Memphis in general.

I just took it as Ja and Bane having a good relationship with Penny and wanting to strengthen the overall basketball reputation of Memphis as a whole. Davis even references it in the SI article that now fans will be able to watch him at Memphis and Ja in the NBA on back to back nights.

I actually think that’s pretty cool how ja and the grizzlies are creating an exciting energy for Memphis basketball

The ironic thing about Davis & Pack though turns out to be they didn't land @ Duke, Kansas, UNC, Houston, Kentucky or Arkansas ect ect...where their professional abilities could have created a heavy fav to win the "NCAA Championship". Instead they landed with collectives on teams that most likely won't make the second weekend. Once these entities are a little more fine tuned like a good hedge fund who knows!!!!!!!!!!! So much to look forward to!

Without commenting on this specific player, if someone made the observation that NIL monies were involved in most if not all of the top 10 portal signings, Chief wouldn’t argue against that.
