Ansonia's Arkeel Newsome (So./RB) finishes the 2011 season as the nation's leading rusher. Texas commit Johnathan Gray (Aledo, TX) was the only remaining player who could catch Newsome. Gray rushed 31 times for 240 yds, 1 TD in Aledo's 49-28 Class 4A State Championship victory over Manvel in front of 43,369 at Cowboy Stadium. In the process Gray broke the national career TD record (204-Mike Hart/Michigan/Indianapolis Colts) on a 37 yd run in the 4Q, his 70th total TD of the season. The national record was 72 in a season. Gray will head off to Texas with 205 career TDs and numerous state and national records.

Have we offered Newsome?

Seems like it should be a high priority to keep talented kids in-state.

I'm not sold on that kid from Texas though. You know he had some games with 8-9 TD's which skews his numbers. Probably only as good as a RB with 50 TD's.

No question, but anytime you lead the nation in something it tweaks people's interest.

+1 he probably would have gotten even BETTER offers had he ran for less TD's in those games, thus unskewing his unrealistic numbers.

I'm guessing in Texas they don't have a 50 point rule and I'll bet RB's stay in games longer in Texas.

Hold the phone. Newsome, who was leading the nation, was waitng to see how J. Gray fared against Manvel. Gray needed 316 yards to catch Newsome, he rushed for 240. However, Devine,TX (RB) Joseph Sadler, who last played on Dec. 2 in a loss to Wimberly,TX, hadn't had his stats updated in a few weeks. Sadler rushed 385 time for 3887 yards and 58 TDs on the season. Therefore, giving him the rushing title for 2011.
