IMO leaving UConn was the best decision for Elena. Both outstanding women.
I completely agree with both of those statements, but neither has anything to do with basketball. The middle of you post is just hogwash. Her basketball game was already very well developed in HS, and the difference she would have experienced at Uconn vs. at Delaware is that she:
1. Would have been surrounded with other WNBA quality talent and thus had much more freedom on the offensive end since she would not have been double and triple teamed at all times - that would have added to her skills as she could have worked more on her passing, driving, and working two man games on screens.
2. Would have an even better basketball mind than she already does, because the coaching staff would have pushed her to define and understand her instincts, and taught her more about reading the flow and the defenses she faced.
3. Geno would have demanded she work on her defensive skills, and not being the only WNBA talent on the team she could have done that without the pressure of realizing too many fouls would automatic result in a loss for the team.
All of that said, she is already a special player, she likely would just be slightly more special.
The reason I agree with your first sentence is because she clearly was not ready to leave a very special home environment when she arrived in Storrs, and if she had stayed feeling that she was deserting her sister, it could have really damaged her psyche, and that might have made her resent basketball and the coaches more than she thought she did.
