UConn contracted the logo on their own. I assume this group paid some form of fee to UConn to use it otherwise it's copyright infringement.

It's not the same. UConn's logo has blue eyes.

Morgan HS in Clinton got a stop and desist order from the UConn AD for using the old Husky logo. I'm sure if Kyle Muncy saw this he would shut them down. @Palatine as for being charged for the logo by Nike..it was part of their contract they didn't charge...actually they paid UConn for the re-branding.

The U of Wisconsin sued something like 158 HS teams for using their 'W' helmet logo several years ago. You have to do it to protect your trademark brand.

The U of Georgia and Packers have used the same helmet logo for as long as I can remember. I've always wondered which one had it first.

The Sports Design Blog » The History of the Packers’ “G”
Lombardi had the G put on the helmets in 1961. Vince Dooley liked the way the G looked on the Packers helmets and in 1964 UGA went from silver helmets to the one's they use now.

So people are copying it and you're implying that Nike did a bad job or something? Ok cool

Yes, Nike copied that logo from a dog rescue group out west.

They also copied it from about three dozen high schools and a day camp in Danbury.

Semi-related; I don't give a lot of advice, but I find this really helps - try not to be stupid.

Considering all the other clip art choices Nike could have saddled us with, they did a great job. I love the new logo. And so does Susan Herbst who endorsed it over a group of several other choices.

Turned its back on a 75 year tradition of white huskies and threw away 30 years of brand value for a piece of clip art that is undistinguished. If the same people were asked to market Google it would probably be renamed Look for stuff on the interweb.

I laughed. +1

I think a simple change to an all white version of the new dog would have made it more easily identifiable as The Connecticut Husky. The current logo while well done, could just as easily be used for UW, NIU or some other Husky Branded Team. When I think UCONN I think of a white dog. I don't give a s*** if the original was actually a Samoyed or some other breed. Its a mascot, it doesn't have to be a literal representation of the name only an invocation.

Hopefully somebody has mentioned this to UConn so we can get a cease and desist letter out. Need to do the same to any HS that is using it.

Agree, but FWIW, there are white Huskies. We've had one as our actual mascot (Jonathan) for decades. Samoyed are a different breed.

That's because I believe it was in the student charter that Jonathan is to be an all white husky with a blue eye. I vaguely remember this from freshman orientation in 04
