It’s concerning because what he is essentially saying that Roberson didn’t do any better than Fagnano.

I agree that the defense changed but I think Roberson gives us a better shot because he is more mobile.

Fagnano looked so sloooow on those RPOs.

the Noel Mazzone stuff is hilarious.

I dislike Charlton’s offense and play calling more than most, but Mora won’t fire him mid season. And we aren’t getting anyone great to step into this dumpster fire.
It’s not hilarious at all. They are very close friends and Mazzone doesn’t have a serious job right now.

This is what I'm afraid of. This, "Let's be patient and see what happens approach" that we've been doing for more than a decade vs "We have a real problem and we need to fix it immediately." This is problem because every other school have been improving and we are going backwards.

I'm not asking change for the sake of change. I'm asking for it because we need it.

Oh we need it. The timing is critical and things can actually get worse.

I don’t think he wants a serious job.

This is like the TJ Weist thing. The BY always yearns for the guy who merely delivered a scent of success but never was successful.
you are probably right in the bigger scheme of things, but in last night's game a scent of success would've been welcomed.

The reason Mora seems to not be getting the most out of the team is because the players wanted Roberson to be QB1
This.
I mentioned it before, but years ago I was at an LSU game in Death Valley. LSU’s QB Josh Booty kept getting sacked. I was later told by a well connected guy in the program that the team (O line) felt that Rohan Davey was the better QB and was letting some guys through. I didn’t believe it but found later it was true. Davey did eventually start and yes—he was the better QB.
JP’s injury gives Mora the perfect opportunity to correct his mistake. TR should get all the snaps and run wild vs FIU.

Need to fix center position, switch our pre-season AA there. Start TR. Play some man defense (or more aggressive zone) and make QB beat UConn by passing and not by running.
It all starts with Mora, it's on him where we are.
Think not starting TR did impact players perception of coaching staff.
In hind sight agree Carter et. al. leaving was an indictment of OC.
Does UConn really hold that much more than opponents?
UConn looks like its on it heals on both defense and offense, like the opponent knows where we are going on each offensive play and can easily take advantage of weaknesses in defensive alignments.

Is his son any good?

I get what you are saying, but we need an inexpensive, experienced guy that Mora can trust to make things better to help us out. His old buddy and coaching partner, Mazzone, is a great choice to help salvage the season. He showed an ability to make a huge difference in a week last time he helped out. We need something like that again and he doesn’t have a real job right now. It makes perfect sense as a temporary solution. Would you prefer we do nothing, fire Charlton and have Mora be HC, OC and DC? Desperate times man. We need someone, anyone.

Btw, both Weist and Mazzone showed far more than any OC since other than Lashlee.

Would he come after the way Mora handled Spanos? BTW its interesting that our top productive starters at skilled positions Marion, Turner and Carter all dipped as fast as they could after big season for our program. Perhaps they weren't big fans of Charlton's offense and if he lost them who else do you think he's lost up to this point that may not be going 100%?
Likely left for better opportunities. I can’t really think of any impact transfers coming in which is concerning.

I think they left because those are better opportunities and because of the QBs and OCs.

Also the guys that came in aren’t as good as the guys that left.

You don't need anyone great to step in, Charlton is awful.

You don't make the decision now and you're scrapping another football season. You keep scrapping seasons and then you're talking about scrapping the program.

Agree but that was last week. I was simply giving us a glimpse at our (not too rosy) future.
And you were kind enough not to mention the week 5 team Uconn plays at the Rent. Utah St and the 78 points they scored yesterday on their FCS opponent.
Word is Mora “almost ripped Charlton’s head off right before the half”. Charlton has to be let go now. At least it will show we actually care about the program.
Meanwhile:
JMU scored 36 beating UVA
Rice scored 43 beating Houston
FIU scored 46 beating North Texas St.
Duke scored 42 beating Lafayette
We scored 14 in embarrassing loss.
Ta’Quan better be the QB to Ta’Qus forward or it’s over!

It’s likely scrapped anyways. The season that is. I could maybe see Mora bringing in some help but he won’t fire Nick Charlton during the season.

I had a sense this was coming. But I didn’t want to see it. As I said somewhere else. I thought there was a real possibility of being 0-4 heading into Utah State.

I love the hype videos but we still have a Maine’s former HC, who was mediocre, Maine’s old offense, which wasn’t coveted by anyone and Maine’s old sometime QB who never put up big numbers there.

People acted like we had the second coming of UNH Chip Kelly. But what we really have is young George DeLeone.

If that's the case we have a Jim Mora problem.

I want a non northeast OC, who loses his mind if we don’t score 40 points a game.
100%. A control the iceball specialist isn’t cutting it. Need a guy that has a sack and is going to put the ball in the air and open up the field. Using Joey F as another nonthrowing RPO QB is laughable. He’s fit for neither the R or the O. Good lord, why is Charlatan still on the payroll today.

OC salary comparisons (2022 numbers):
UConn - Nick Charlton ~400k
George State - Trent McKnight 160k
James Madison - Mike Shanahan 150k
Fresno State - Pat McCann 160k
Utah State - Kyle Cefalo 180k
Colorado - Sean Lewis - 900k (2023 number)
UTSA - Justin Burke 215k
Marshall - Clint Trickett 183k

Lots of teams with first year OCs that are doing great offensively:
Marshall
App State
Texas State
Coastal Carolina
Rice

The only non-P5 school that spends more than us on coordinators is Memphis.

Was Charlton a Mora pick or a Benedict pick?

My suggestion that we need an inexpensive guy is because we have to pay Charlton. I’m talking about today. Can we bring someone in to help and try to salvage the season? I’m not talking about a long term solution necessarily. We are much more likely to find that after the season.
