Geno's Frustration

So why do they go to South Dakota? Utah? You know some of those frigid, windy, states in the West? Texas, is for the most part baron.
Geno--certainly isn't for many. Geno is a great Guard/forward/wing coach. CD, is she still the Post Coach?
Obviously, Big City life is far from Storrs. Academic (one or 2 transfers said) isn't great
But GENO gets guards, wings, forwards--why not EFFECTIVE on day ONE posts? Dawn does, apparently the Texas coach does, UCLA seems to, why not Uconn?
Everyone doesn't need a big city or an academically perfect school--
Beating Uconn is hardly a goal for a post--only 3 or so a year can do that and only in 3 or so schools.
Winning teams must have a strong post presence. That's a fact. Uconn is usually beaten by teams with decent posts. Dorka/ONO saved the day for Uconn--Lou saved a game or 2
Azure', transfer from Duke seemed miserable here. Why?

Stevens was misrable at UConn for the same reasons she transferred out of Duke. She represents a new breed of player. Stevens leaving UConn hurt the recruiting for other centers. I posted that right after she decided not to retun. Geno needed her to finish her final year. Stevens never wanted to play in the post which is what Geno was intending on teaching her in her final year.

Players now days have already put so much effort into basketball before they even reach college, that unless they are BB fanatics they sort of want a bit of a break. Ask yourselves, when was the last impactful center that came out of the program to the WNBA. Stewie was not a center. One of the past draws for UConn was the success that its grads had in the profesional ranks. The success rate has been recently limited to guards and Stewie and that was still some time ago. Post players will generally choose other schools and coaches.

I keep hearing on BY that "Connecticut is not for everyone" as the excuse for why first-rate front court players are not inclined to come here. Now we're hearing it about the lack of transfers. Yes, we got seven transfers in seven years. But look who we didn't get. Start with Cardoso. She is quite possibly the number 2 player in the WNBA draft, and also possibly the upcoming MVP of the championship game. She bailed out of a miserable Syracuse program. But did she come to UConn? No. Did she even consider coming here? And how about Betts' transfer? We have simply not been a factor in the transfer portal for top-rate talent. As Coach Geno once remarked, he is not proactive, although it appears that a lot of coaches at a lot of programs are. The world has changed. Time for us to get more active in that new world.

Bett’s wasn’t ever going to come here! As for Cardoso, we had just taken Dorka and I am unsure as to whether she (Cardoso) was even an option for us. How do you think Dorka feels if she comes here and then three weeks later she’s being recruited over? The truth is, we had a good big for that tournament but she happened to break her wrist two games befoore the title game! Would we have won if she had been healthy? (Along with Azzi, Paige, and Caroline) Who knows, but what is undeniable is that we might have! It’s not the recruiting, and in that particular case, it wasn’t the portal! It was, wait for it, the injuries!!!
