The UConn women will need to play much better this evening to leave Nebraska with a win against a tough offensive Creighton team (15-5/10-2) and keep their longstanding conference win streak alive. UConn coach Geno Auriemma was not satisfied with his team’s play Sunday at Providence, saying he “wasn’t pleased about anything with the way we played.” UConn's game at Creighton finishes a four-game road stint. The Huskies' next four games will be played in Connecticut. UConn hosts Butler in Gampel Pavilion Friday before finishing off non-conference play vs. No. 7 Tennessee Sunday at the XL Center. The Huskies host Villanova Wednesday, Feb. 9, at XL before finishing off the homestand vs. DePaul on Friday, Feb. 11, in Gampel.

Creighton has had the luxury of being difficult to scout this season, with a plethora of scoring options. The Bluejays have a player reach at least 20 points in nine contests, getting that total at least once from Carly Bachelor, Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek. Ronsiek sits atop the scoring chart with 14.8 ppg, but fellow sophomores Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly have are just a step back averaging 12.0 ppg and 11.9 ppg respectively.

The key to Creighton's attack is ball movement. The Bluejays enter Friday's contest as the NCAA leader in Assist-to-Turnovers (1.59) and Assists Per Game (20.8). Senior point guard Tatum Rembao stirs the drink for the Bluejays with 125 assists and a 3.38 Assist-to-Turnover Ratio (2nd in the NCAA). “They’re not an easy team to defend,” Auriemma said after the first UConn-Creighton game. “You’ve got to work really, really hard, and you’ve got to keep working. The minute you stop, they get a layup or they get an open 3.”

The Interior Game: Creighton outscored Connecticut in the paint and grabbed one additional rebound than the Huskies during the game in Storrs. A repeat of that effort will keep the Bluejays in range.
Speaking of range: While the Bluejays have thrived this season on the inside, Creighton was just 5-for-25 from beyond the arc at Connecticut. The Bluejays season low from long range is five, doing so in a pair of losses.
Belief: Against the Huskies one of the biggest hurdles is believing they can be beat. An eight-point loss in January left the Bluejays feeling that an opportunity was missed. When the teams first met on Jan. 9, UConn saw its 17-point advantage shrink to eight in the final minutes before pulling out a 63-55 win. Creighton has since gone 5-1, its sole loss to Villanova (74-64).

Hoping that Christyn has another good game, that the passes to inside open people happen quicker, that Liv gets the ball and pivots and immediately shoot & that she scores 10+ points, that Aaliyah continues with aggressive ball, that Caroline dials it back a bit from outside (still take outside shots but more balanced, less rushed shots) and keeps going inside for opportunities, that Azzi scores 10 points or more, and that Nika keeps the pace up and shows good shooting again. That's it.

Sweet Carl Ademec story about an elite (Nebraskan) gymnast who has always been a UConn fan and UConn gave her an example of what can be done with goals and hard work

It was eight years ago she went to Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln to watch the Huskies play. Her favorites, she told a UConn supporter, were Stewart and UConn coach Geno Auriemma. That supporter was Auriemma’s wife Kathy. So after the win she and then-athletic director Warde Manuel accompanied Zeiss to the locker room where she met the Hall of Fame coach and his players, took pictures with the team, and had them sign her game program.

She said it was the best day of her life.
“I remember it like it was yesterday,” Zeiss said. “I was just in awe of everyone.”

Two days later, UConn beat Texas A&M to advance to the Final Four in Nashville, where the Huskies defeated Stanford and Notre Dame to go 40-0 and win the second of four consecutive national championships.

I’m wondering if sometimes when Geno is bored, he’ll visit the yard just to see what we’re talking about. He has often said we have no clue as to what is really going on. How would he know what we’re thinking unless he meets and talks to us face to face, or……..drops into the yard from time to time. We know that some of the parents do.

One revealed that she was a parent, and that she appreciated the kind thoughts we had expressed about her daughter. It’s a good bet that some potential recruits visit the yard too. Remember when Evina Westbrook’s mother took to social media to defend her because of the things the fan base were saying about her in their chat rooms and various other mediums? Parents do monitor their team’s fan chat rooms.

Gabby Williams’ father was a regular here. He let it slip once who he was. You never know who will be reading your post. In my very humble opinion, our players should never venture into the yard. Ever!! They could read something about them, take it the wrong way personal.

There have been quite a few parents and coaches on the Boneyard. Opposing college coaches too.

That is scary because we often give very good analyses of the weaknesses of our own players. Good to keep in mind who might be reading. I also think there is a lot of excellent, spot on advice here about things that can be improved or changed. Examples are Liv bringing the ball down after an offensive rebound, Evina not taking an open 3, Caroline forcing at times, and the like. We have many long cheering, knowledgeable fans here and rarely is there even a tangential issue about a thread topic that is not well covered.

I hope you are right. This team tends to need Paige on the floor. With her they can whip anyone--without her, we get Providence.

Too bad Lexi is only 4'11". We could use a hard-working kid like her. Best wishes to her! I hope she makes it to Paris in 2024!

Got to meet him, talk to him, and take a pic with him at Gabby's homecoming game a few years back. Super nice guy!
