Accompanying an article on the unfortunate death of ex-NFL player, Ray Easterling, a picture of UConn alumnus and 7-season NFL player Eric Torkelson (26). Easterling 'shot himself' at home after struggling to cope with dementia. The 62-year-old former Atlanta Falcons star was suing NFL amid claims it covered up links between football and brain injuries. He is thought to have developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy - or 'punch drunk syndrome' after repeated blows to the head during career".

In action: Easterling, wearing the No 32 jersey, watches as Green Bay Packers running back ERIC TORKELSON (26) looks for a hole.

For those who never saw Eric play for UConn, the kid had the best balance. His first year, he pretty much only was a kick returner even though obviously the most talented runner. Had a terrific UConn career and 7 years in the NFL is darn good.

What is Eric doing now...I remember that he was good in the NFL. Green Bay always takes small college players... John Dorsey...was another play they took...

Paul Duckworth in 1994 drafted by Green Bay too. Lansanah was picked up Green Bay for awhile. Tavarr Closs got a real close look from Green Bay, but hung around with Kansas City for awhile. Duckworth could look at you and make you feel real nervous.......never mind contact. He's coaching football at a prep school in Dallas/FW area. Be nice to open a recruiting channel down that way. Dorsey is the director of college scouting for the Packers and has been for many years. Pretty sure Tavarr is still in Hartford, and runnign some kind of community support center for kids or something.

saw Eric T play vs Rutgers. The Rutgirls has a hot shot running back named JJ Jennings who (I think) went on to a good career in the old AFL. Anyhow, UCONN got a lead and in the 4th qtr just gave the ball to Eric T on every play. UCONN even went into the oLd full house backfield T formation to get extra blocking. Eric T was outstanding and definitely out played JJ Jennings.

I was at that game. JJ Jennings fumbled, Donnie Thompson caught the ball in the air and returned it for a UConn TD.

Back in those days, you couldn't advance a fumble once it hit the ground. The only way to return one for a TD was to catch the fumble in the air. Crazy, no?

Eric stayed in the Green Bay area after finishing his playing career and still resides there.
