It's phrased awkwardly, but their exit fee doubles on June 30 so they're hoping to avoid paying that since nothing is getting finalized before then. No idea why they Mountain West would do that though
They won't. SDSU just needs to go with it and save the exit fee money. They're almost certainly going to the Pac12 with SMU as backfill. I don't see any other candidate other than maybe Utah State.

Exactly...honestly, how is a 3-hour flight to, say Kansas, worse than a 3+ hour bus ride to play St. Johns or Seaton Hall, often with traffic.
Other than the enormous cost of a plane vs a bus.

I mean if we’re talking money, I don’t think the Big East has the upper hand—even if we take a plane to the XL center
How many Husky fans show up for an away game at Seton Hall on a Saturday? How many will show up in Manhattan(KS that is)? Gotta take the $$$, but it certainly will dampen some of the fun of the BE.

When we moved from the AAC to the Big East, the AD said we would save roughly $2M/yr in travel costs.

And we would be gaining roughly $45M/yr extra in TV money when you factor in the CFP revenue sharing. Increased travel budget wouldn't be an issue. At all.

It’s a 3 hour bus ride vs…
1 hour bus ride to airport, waiting 1 hour at airport + 2 hour flight to connection + another 2 hour flight + 1 hr bus ride from airport to stadium + bus ride to hotel, because too late the flip back in same day + 1 night at hotel.

One thing to do this if you are a semi pro basketball player, another thin if you are a true Student Athlete, in some less visible sport and you actually need to get back to class and study.

They have internet and laptops these days to help with that.

Fortunately, we don't need to buy the plane, we can just charter it.

If you're so worried about traveling impacting studies, lets join the Northeast Conference

One of the things the move to the big 12 will do is lessen the pressure to play top opponents in the pre-season. We will also be less vulnerable to a good opponent having in off-season, which hurt us this year.

Two of the biggest names in college sports just signed on for even more travel then what UConn will need.
But they’re also getting North of 50 million a year. All UConn fans would sign on for that.

I’ve come around on this point. It’s 4 games a year. The money is well worth it. And if we can become even just respectable in a conference of schools from a region of college sports that matters (South/Midwest), all the better for our overall reputation when NCAA rapture arrives

You are right, 100% would sign up for an extra 50 million per year and I'm guessing at least 80% would sign up for the extra 30 - 40 million we get by joining the B12. (football ticket sales increase included)

It appears that is not the case given how many are saying no to the Big 12 invite
50 Million and play in the Big 10 is much more attractive than 30 million and play in Big 12 with teams that were in the America conference. Do we really want to be Syracuse or BC is the question? The travel and distance for all sports will eat any profits and much less likely to be in position to win national championships. Your thoughts?

I agree the Big 10 is preferable, but the Big 10 is not calling any time soon. I think the insinuation we'll become BC or Syracuse is borderline insane, and saying we won't compete for national championships is actually insane. It's also not $30M in the B12, the current media deal/CFP is $50M per school

But share of college football playoff revenue not included. That's what brings you up to 50 million.

I’m wondering where this 30-40 million is going to come from. Does the network just say sure we’ll increase our just negotiated contract proportionately so we can get UConn football? Or do a bunch of Texas schools agree to take a smaller piece of the pie to have their football conference diluted?

Having a hard time wrapping my head around this.
