I want to know why Diaco hates Bobby Puyol so much before he leaves. He gives everyone a chance but this kid. Thomas gets his targets, BS had a long rope... Nothing for a great kicker, never gets his shots even as a senior. Diaco has it out for him.
Curious...why do you say that...because of going for it on 4th and 18 yesterday instead of kicking the FG? I think there is consensus that was not a good decision by Diaco, but not sure it's a knock on Puyol. I will say that I did happen to sit next a couple rows from Puyol parents for a bit yesterday, and there were not many smiles that I saw from them...or many others needless to say.

Its weird to see the beat writers so dismissive of Diaco. Rightfully so, just odd to see when they depend on the team for access. This is especially clear to see in their interactions with fans on twitter. They realize he is a joke and don't really try to hide their thoughts.

Think uconn needs the writers more than the writers need access. Can't be fun covering this debacle

"The other two phases, although there are things to clean up here and there, they basically played well enough to win, to have a better 2016," Diaco said. "The defense tactically, and culturally, the special teams, tactically and just energy-wise, the kicking specialists [are fine]."

Played well enough to win? Seriously Diaco? Your squad has not played well in any phase.

Did you watch this season? He has neglected Puyol all year while touting other aspects of a broken machine. He touts Obi, Thomas, Williams, etc for going pro and doesn't give Puyol any shots or talk him up. I am not related - just would have prefered to have 30 extra points on the season on the 10 or so blown field goal opportunities. Puyol does all the hard work but gets S#!t on every week.

This right here. He actually believes this. I'd rather he were a lying snake but the fact that he believes this is why he needs to be gone pronto.

Misery Index Week 12: Examining why the Charlie Strong era failed via @USATODAY

>UConn: Since leading UCF 16-14 at halftime on Oct. 22, UConn has had 40 offensive possessions over 3½ games. Those possessions have ended with 22 punts, eight turnovers on downs, six turnovers, three missed field goals and one made field goal. And now UConn is a brutal, unwatchable, unmitigated tire fire of a football team with a coach in Bob Diaco who had the audacity to say that his team has been “competitive” in most of these games. That's just false.

UConn hasn’t been competitive for the majority of this season, and Diaco’s perpetual oddities are wearing thin on a fan base that is tired of hearing him talk about about national championships and how his players are the most talented in the country at their positions. At this point, UConn fans would prefer to see competence than hear this kind of unbridled aggrandizement with no basis in reality.<

JJ calling bull crap on BD is his Walter Cronkite moment. He can't pretend that he knows what he is doing anymore as folks that are paid to analyze his team are not afraid to point out his lunacy. Weist took over a tough situation here but the thing that was most evident was he was not a bulls###ter. He made sense when he spoke. Three years wasted and more importantly three years of players careers wasted. Diaco should resign.

I had high hopes and wanted to believe, but coach Diaco needs to go. This is a catastrophe. We need to move on immediately after the Tulane game.

I was put off by his "preseason games" in season 1. A real coach tries to win every single game. I gave this guy a chance and I did like how the team rallied and they made a bowl last year. With all the returning players I'm not ashamed to say that this team had a shotto go 7-5 and secure a better bowl this season. And then the Maine game...

Reading some of his quotes...it's hard to believe he believes what he is saying. How can a coaching staff implement a smash mouth offense and only discover in midseason that it wasn't going to work? When every team of note spreads the field in some form and utilizes space to achieve success what made Diaco and his staff believe that they could run the ball down everyone's throat for 12 games? How can he act so surprised when it doesn't work? How can he say his staff is not skilled enough to adapt? The fool indicts himself with those comments. This is his team, with his staff! Watching his O line get blown up play after play with Diaco's only response a form of hopping and head slappin while giving the thumbs up sign is a further indictment of his coaching. He's cheerleading when he should be getting in his players grilles. He hasn't created a culture, he's created a fantasy world complete with participation trophies!

He cannot stay.

At least when Kanye West went nuts in Sacramento on Saturday, people could get a refund. Where's my refund for what I experienced at BC?

Maybe Williams really did, as Diaco said, go to him unsolicited as a freshman and tell the head coach of a major college football team he ought to burn his redshirt with three games left in a season. It's far-fetched — fantastic — but maybe it really did happen.

It didn't.
