Avon High's Moore Named State's Gatorade Player Of Year

Avon's Colin MooreWins State Honors
Colin Moore of Avon High School has been named Gatorade Connecticut football player of the year. He is the first to be chosen from Avon High School. The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. He becomes a finalist for national player of the year. Moore led Avon to a 10-0 record a berth in the CIAC Class L quarterfinals. Avon lost 16-7 to New Canaan. Moore had Avon's lone touchdown on a 49-yard run. It was his 30th touchdown of the season; he also rushed for more than 2,000 yards this year, including 111 against New Canaan. Moore has maintained a B average in the classroom. During the 2011 Halloween snowstorm, he volunteered as an electrician's assistant to help restore power in the area. He has also donated his time as a peer mentor to intellectually and physically challenged students and also serves as a youth counselor.
