UConn, playing in a conference so lacking in talent, may not be prepared to play a team like SC that routinely plays the toughest competition, night in and night out in the SEC.

UConn, being a relatively "small" team, may get into foul trouble against a team with the size, athleticism and skill level as SC, who is not only huge across it's frontcourt, but brings in waves of 6'4"/6'5" players.

UConn, being a team that relies heavily on it starting 5, due to it's "obvious" lack of depth, may wear out against a team like SC, who goes 27 deep with intimidating bigs, lightning quick guards, defensive specialists and designated sharpshooters.

UConn, having already lost this year to a less than stellar Stanford team, has cracks in it's armor that can be exposed by guards that can break down opponents off the bounce, so a team like SC, that's led in the backcourt by the SEC Player of the Year and a highly touted freshman of limitless speed, should be able to penetrate UConn's exterior defense creating easy scoring chances for the penetrators and low post players alike.

It would seem to me that the only problem with conventional wisdom is, it doesn't necessarily apply to a program of top down unconventional greatness.

* The SEC is overrated

* UConn is really not that small and plays way bigger…also speed, also athleticism, also smarts

* The lack of depth argument was always understood to be a joke; recognized here as such from the outset.

* SC's guards were ultimately over-matched. Remember Cuevas is only a freshman…Geno didn't find it necessary to throw Gabby to the wolves last night (i.e.:count on her to produce big time on such a big stage) and he didn't. Cuevas was called upon to be a star last night and she suffered the fate that has befallen many young star players caught in the crosshairs of Geni's planning and the spider-web of the defense's execution.

* I can't explain the Stanford loss; we didn't play particularly well, surely the pourous D was strikingly unusual and they played out of their minds. Even more striking is how up and down they have been thereafter. If I was to theorize on the most important reason for that loss it would be Geno's short turn-around from the World's. Having more time to de-pressurize would be advantageous. It will happen again in two years

Many things are recognized here that are sometimes overlooked by the "experts", because this is a forum of unconventional wisdom.

Attribute the Stanford loss to Tara having a complete off season to game plan for UConn. She took KML out of the game for long stretches of the game by face guarding her with one of her 6'3" players. Although Saniya scored 18 points, she was over matched by the quickness of the Stanford guards. Team Defense was flawed in that game. Still it took 88 points to beat UConn. Stanford doesn't score 88 points if they meet again. However I can see UConn scoring in the 80's.
