Thoughts on an in-season out of conference tournament called the Connecticut Classic?

ROUND 1 rotate home teams
  • Game 1
    • #163 Fairfield vs #285 Sacred Heart
  • Game 2
    • #171 Quinnipiac vs #234 CCSU
ROUND 2 @ XL Center
  • Game 3
    • Game 1 Loser vs Game 2 Loser
  • Game 4
    • #82 Yale vs Game 2 Winner
  • Game 5
    • #3 UConn vs Game 1 Winner
ROUND 3 @ XL Center
  • Game 6
    • Game 4 Loser vs Game 5 Loser
  • Game 7
    • Game 4 Winner vs Game 5 Winner
Note that Game 1 and Game 2 matchups will avoid Fairfield vs Quinnipiac (both in Metro Atlantic) and CCSU vs Sacred Heart (both in NEC). Depending on games 1 and 2...game 3 could be conference matchup...but perhaps they will deal with that.

Changed Mohegan Sun to XL Center

You will never see that. What's the upside to UConn. Waste of possible two home games gates. Nope ain't gonna do it.

If that is an issue...then round 2 and 3 are at XL Center as UConn home games

Perhaps if Game 3 ends up as a conference matchup...then game is 'cancelled' so not to disrupt conference schedule

Potential upside for UConn includes reducing Quad 4 matchups...this year would be close to Q2 and Q3

At the risk of sounding spoiled and arrogant, a tournament doesn’t really make sense when one program is so much better than the rest of the programs involved. I like the idea of scheduling some more decent in-state games but this won’t happen for many reasons.

28 -1 Trinity College has the best record of all the schools in Connecticut. Perhaps the division 3 schools should be given a chance. Trinity may be able to beat some of the schools listed.

They play Tufts Friday to make the sweet 16

I would like it better without UConn. Great exposure for all these teams. Having five teams with one team out each year keeps it fresh.
