Just once I'd like one of these articles to also point out the economic impact, like the millions of dollars these March runs bring into UConn, the tens of millions of dollars in free advertising and reaching new prospective students who would pay out-of-state tuition, the increases in alumni donations to the school, and the immeasurable impact having weeks of stories and cameras on Storrs because of the team.

The "highest paid state employee" angle is tired. Hurley earns his share and then some.

"Not a dime back." - Calhoun voice.
As a concerned Connecticut taxpayer, I want a dime back if he doesn’t beat Miami.

-> In the meantime, the run to the Final Four as a member of the Big East will add millions to the UConn athletic department. The Big East, which placed five teams in the Field of 68, four reaching the Round of 32, three the Sweet 16 and two the Elite Eight, will earn 15 “tournament units,” as defined by the NCAA, which doles out revenue to the conferences based on performance. This amounts to about $30 million in extra revenue paid out over six years, the strongest revenue stream since the Big East was reformed in 2013. The Big East earned 13 units in 2022. UConn joined the conference in 2020.

Given UConn’s athletic budget shortfall, $53 million in the last fiscal year, the money will help close the gap. The program missed the tournament three years in a row between 2017-19, and there was no tournament played in 2020 due to the pandemic. UConn had first-round exits in 2021 and 22, so this is a piece of the financial pie that has been missing over the last decade. <-

->By reaching the Final Four this year, Hurley triggers an option for a two-year extension, which would lengthen his contract through March 31, 2029. Had UConn reached the Sweet 16 but fallen short of the Final Four, Hurley would have been eligible for a one-year extension.

Additionally, Hurley has earned several financial bonuses, including $200,000 for reaching the Final Four — which would increase to $250,000 if UConn reaches the championship game or $400,000 if the Huskies win the national title — as well as another $100,000 for finishing in the top 10 of the final AP Top 25.

Hurley is also eligible for a $100,000 discretionary bonus based on his achievement of unspecified goals set forth by UConn athletic director David Benedict. On top of those bonuses, Hurley will see his annual salary increase by $150,000 as a result of reaching at least the Sweet 16.<-

-> Altogether, this means UConn's run this month has already netted Hurley $450,000 and two additional years. The payouts could eventually be worth up to $750,000 depending how the Huskies perform at the Final Four and whether the coach receives his discretionary bonus. <-

Absolutely. And his gameplans and adjustments have been spot on in the tourney. My favorite coaching moment today was when Timme had just committed his 4th and Hawk had hit a big 3 and we came out of the timeout and full court pressed. He was ready to keep the Zags off balance the whole rest of the way if we'd needed it.
Hurley has learned and evolved - quickly!! He’s got quite a group of brains to pick- JC, Gino and his dad in particular and loads of support from former players. In Hurley we Trust :). And, never forget the trust, faith and vision our administrators had for UConn athletics. Next up: Jim Mora!

That number is going to grow. Two years salary a few years out at $3.375 (plus I imagine additional incentives that could total another few hundred k) is insufficient in a world where Ed Cooley makes $6 million a year.

Extremely happy for Danny.. Been a long road for him since he quit BB at Seton Hall.. Hope some of the well-earned financial windfall based on Program incentives trickles down to assistants.. Gotta keep those guys around until they get the call they're waiting for--hopefully down the road.

Considering Ed Cooley got almost $6 million from Georgetown and Hurley has more NCAA Tournament wins in the last 2 weeks than Cooley had in 12 years at PC, I think Hurley is up for a substantial raise.
