Over the past fall/winter the Cape Cod League tweeted about the following UConn players playing on the Cape this summer:

Cape Cod League

Mason Feole - Wareham Gatemen
John Toppa - Wareham Gatemen
Randy Polonia - Bourne Braves - However, Polonia won't play due to Tommy John surgery
Zac Susi - Bourne Braves
CJ Dandeneau - Hyannis Harborhawks
Sam Nepiarsky - Hyannis Harborhawks
Anthony Prato - Brewster Whitecaps
Ronnie Rossomando - Bourne Braves - not tweeted, but on the Bourne summer roster.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

Chris Winkel - Mystic Schooners - currently Winkel is the only UConn player listed on the Schooner roster, usually they have a few UConn players.

Futures League

Joe Simeone (UConn recruit) - Wachusett Dirt Dawgs
Christian Fedko (UConn recruit) - Wachusett Dirt Dawgs

They are just catching up w/ @dbmill but there some new info within. ;) Not sure we have ever had that many in CCL (9). Cate/Poulin/Rossomondo/Susi battery all summer is a bonus!

Josh Loeffler is not shown in that summer baseball listing. I just checked, he is still listed on the Newark Pilots roster. It is possible that Loeffler is gone from the Newark team, and the online roster hasn’t been updated yet. However, if Loeffler is still with Newark, his omission from the summer baseball list makes me wonder if Josh Loeffler is gone from the UConn baseball team.

Joe Simeone and Christian Fedko have been mentioned before as incoming recruits. However, Jeffrey Kertsen is a new name. He is a JUCO pitcher from Sierra College in California who has committed to UConn.

Might be a good idea to post the complete summer baseball assignment list from the UConn twitter feed so we don't have to do an extra click.

I don't know what the UConn record for the CCL is either, but I have to wonder how many players on the 2010 or 2011 teams played on the Cape. Could have been 10 on the Cape this time around if Polonia's arm didn't require surgery. He was slated for Bourne as well, so maybe Poulin replaced him on their roster.

The New London Day has a preview story on the Mystic Schooners. In that story, they mention a player from Avery Point:

"First baseman/outfielder Vinnie Pallisco contributed to UConn-Avery Point's run to the NJCAA Division II World Series. He'll join the Huskies in Storrs in the fall."

Orbe optimistic about defending NECBL champion Schooners

Since Vinnie Pallisco was not mentioned in the updated UConn summer ball assignments, I'm guessing he is a walk on who is not guaranteed a spot on the Storrs roster for next season.

Excuse my ignorance, but where is Willy Yahn going this summer? Is he expected to be drafted?

There is some good history in the above release.

>>Nine Huskies will represent the program in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. Tim Cate, Zac Susi, Ronnie Rossomando and P.J. Poulin will play for the Bourne Braves under a pair of Huskies on the coaching staff, manager Harvey Shapiro (’70) and pitching coach Jordan Tabakman (’15).<<

Along with Willy Yahn, Wills Montgomerie also isn't currently listed with a collegiate summer ball team. Nothing unusual there, as it seems that draft eligible players who expect to be picked often don't play summer ball, at least right away. Sometimes if they don't sign with a mlb team soon after the draft, these players do end up playing summer ball, possibly to help build up a case for a better signing bonus as the signing deadline approaches in mid July.

UConn baseball has updated its summer ball assignments list. That list shows that UConn has picked up another new JUCO transfer pitcher from California. LHP Chase Gardner is playing for the Healdsburg Prune Packers of the California Collegiate League this summer. The Healdsburg roster does show Gardner as going to UConn. In 2016 Gardner played for the San Francisco Dons, and then for the 2017 season he transferred to the JUCO ranks at the College of Marin where he was a starting pitcher.

Meanwhile, the updated assignment list shows that a couple of UConn pitchers have changed summer ball teams. Sam Nepiarsky is now with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League, while CJ Dandeneau is now with the Plymouth Pilgrims of the NEBCL.

Last summer, then incoming freshmen Mason Feole pitched for Worcester of the Futures League and proved to be pretty dominating in that league. This year another incoming UConn freshman pitcher has gotten off to a very fast start in the Futures League. Joe Simeone has been working out of the bullpen for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. So far in 4 games, Simeone has pitched 5.1 innings in 4 games, and has the following stats: 1 hit, 1 walk, 9(!) strikeouts, no runs given up, 2 wins, and 2 saves. An encouraging start to the summer season, to say the least.

Outfielder Ben Maycock was one of the last players cut from the UConn baseball roster prior to this past spring season. Well, he is playing summer ball for the Bristol Blues of the Futures League. Maycock is off to a very fast start offensively, hitting over .300 with power and with plenty of walks. Anyway, this article refers to him having been redshirted this past season. It may not be quite an accurate statement, but since Maycock was not on the roster, he did indeed sit out the spring season. At any rate, the article seems to raise the possibility that Maycock could be a walk on candidate for UConn baseball this fall.

Maycock is not the only player cut from last year's team to be playing summer college ball. RHP Dillon Stimpson is playing for the Nashua Silver Knights, also of the Futures League.

Anthony Prato has been released by the Brewster Whitecaps. Players do tend to move around during the short summer season, so I'm guessing he'll resurface somewhere.

Only 4 plate appearances so far... wonder if something's up?

Cape Cod League started play on June 14, a bit later than most of the other summer leagues, so there has only been a little over a week of play so far. Both middle infielders who are getting the bulk of the playing time were on the Brewster roster last year as well, so Prato was perhaps down the pecking order, so to speak. Also, AJ Graffanino, the guy playing shortstop for Brewster, is currently hitting .458. Someone who hits like that to start the season is bound to keep getting playing time.
