In all candor, one of the drawbacks I see if DC does play today is that it would take minutes from Singare. This game should be a rare (for this point of the season) opportunity to give the kid some run.

I see what you’re saying but we need to worry about winning the game before we worry about mop up minutes. We “should” win but no guarantees. Noon games are never a Husky favorite and if he is healthy he needs reps. Will be interesting.

Kalk is kinda soft but he doesn’t get moved easily from near the basket and can rebound something Samson hasn’t done very well. Don’t think SJ would be a great matchup as he’s too small and will definitely get in foul trouble. Can’t be guarding him with Alex we know we’d be in foul trouble everywhere. If healthy would love DC to be back even for 15 minutes.
All good points…but why bring inDC against his biggest competitor when he won’t be in top form or condition? Trying to go from 0-100 is how injuries can happen. It’s one thing using buy game opponents to play your way into shape , it’s quite diff against Kalk

I think for at least GTown and Creighton (and maybe even Nova, who doesn’t have anyone over 6’9), if he plays at all, you have him come in off the bench, when other teams’ bench is in and/or starters are wearing down. I definitely don’t think we need him today; and I think Johnson can handle Kalkbrenner. He’s not going to be well conditioned, which is asking for a re-aggravation. As basically everyone has already said, we need him more for March

Edit I just saw Kalkbrenner listed at 270 on the ESPN roster. That can’t be right…

In some ways, to a point, the longer he sits the better. We (and he) really can’t afford for him to reinjure and have to start healing over again. We have proven we can win without him so let’s take as long as needed here. My biggest worry is how do we ensure he comes back effectively and in condition to make a difference.

The lines I read between in Hurley’s presser sure sounded like he’s a “DNP” for today.

Hey who knows if and when he’s cleared of any repeat pain and injury. We won’t know today, won’t know in February. If he’s coming back and going to help us then eventually you have to trust you need to slowly get him in game shape right? I trust all the scans and MRIs, specialists and doctors understand our concerns for the young man much more than we do. If it’s time it’s time.

If he “feels nothing” and is ok then he has to play 10 minutes. Holding him out gets you what if he’s fully healed? Re injury can happen in any game moving forward. These cant be prevented because you have hundreds of pounds potentially coming down on your foot every time you go up for a rebound. No way to plan against it happening whether it’s now or 6 games from now.
Some might say well if that’s the case then just hold him out until the middle week of Feb. Makes no sense.

And, no, docs are generally a bunch of clowns. That’s why there a is a multibillion dollar malpractice industry.

Wow, that's a pretty broad accusation against an entire profession. Yeah, some are clowns like all people in life, but most are competent skilled professionals who while not perfect, know way more than you on the subject.

And the reason there is a multi-billion dollar malpractice industry is way more because of lawyers than doctors.

Unoffically, I surmise 12 BYers for playing him, 12 for waiting and 13 for hanging it on the team doctor.
No one suggests he listen to his dad?
NIL advisors don't have a voice?

I don't think they leak this if they don't plan on giving him a few minutes barring an overnight set back. Or maybe the whole program decided to troll the Boneyard.

It's because of juries.

If only we had a highly paid and trained staff to make these decisions instead of the Boneyard.

To be fair, he started the season with a foot injury, was in visible pain during games, subsequently reinjured the foot.

Dealing a 7' 2" human here, it's not an exact science.

A few very very few bad docs and yes attorney greed and human error and patient greed and over sympathetic juries. There usually never is a simple answer to a complex problem.

Yes, stupid people on juries are to blame too, but they aren't the ones putting up billboards every 2 miles or running commercials every break telling people they "deserve" compensation for everything.
And TV ads

Let the kid play. He’s here on a basketball scholarship and every game we have him is a bonus. If the staff clears him then let’s GO!
Great idea why not take a chance to destroy a guys potential NBA career after all he owes that to us fans and the school and the state and the country. Who cares about an individual student athlete!

Putting aside whether or not he plays today, I'd like to see Hurley max him out at about 25 minutes most games. Keeping him healthy for the Big East and NCAA Tournaments is what's most important.

If the doctor(s) say he is ready and he is practicing then the normal course of action would be to spot him a few minutes. If he has been told no he sits. I don’t see this being a difficult decision and you don’t let him talk his way into the game.

I read this as Hurley being cagey and keeping upcoming opponents on their toes. I'd be surprised if he plays today. I'd still be surprised even if it were expected to be a more competitive game.

Important for Samsons development as well. He's a piece we need to see get good.
