Hartf0rd and Connecticut lost the Whalers on their own. The NHL doesn't want them to return. But it's not their fault they left.500 mil? Dayum. Too bad the NHL didn't want to let them stay in Hartford.
If the Devils didn't win Stanley Cups, they'd have been moved.Hartf0rd and Connecticut lost the Whalers on their own. The NHL doesn't want them to return. But it's not their fault they left.
Is it their fault they had three winning seasons in 18 years which might cause attendance problems in many markets outside of the original 6?Hartf0rd and Connecticut lost the Whalers on their own. The NHL doesn't want them to return. But it's not their fault they left.
Malloy just made us look really desperate. I agree. Enough. The Whalers are not coming back anytime soon. Trading Ron Francis (and selling to Karmanos) was the fatal harpoon. Houston and Quebec City will get franchises before Hartford. Then a bunch of other cities will pop up.This guy sucks:
Constantly rips his own team(the canes) and now defends them:

Hey Hartford: Thanks, but no thanks. And please, stop. Enough.
UConn’s Cavanaugh, USCHO.com’s Weston join Feb. 6 edition of USCHO Live! You're crazy. Governor Malloy the only politician to do anything positive for the Hartford hockey season since Ella Grasso raised the Civic Center roof: he is 100% responsible for UConn's men's hockey team joining Hockey East and making Hartford their home. This will help fire up the Hartford hockey crowd and bring another great crowd on Friday vs. BU. God bless the guy.
Said nice things about the XL Center and likes staying in the hotel rather than the team being on campus during the weekend. Also implied Phase 1 would mean some Freitas upgrades although he wasn't specific. Bottom line it did not seem like he was in a tremendous hurry to build a new facility.UConn’s Cavanaugh, USCHO.com’s Weston join Feb. 6 edition of USCHO Live!
Go to 33:40 to listen to the man who is in charge of the program about the future facilities on campus.
How so?Agree that Malloy's vision was very important to UConn joining HE.
How so?
Fair point. Of course it he didn't it would have sped up the development of the on campus rink.Well for one he put $ into the XL Center to keep it operating..

Not so sure of that, since playing in the XL was kind of an after thought. I don't think anyone realized that it would take off as much as it has.Or UConn would have not joined Hockey East until much later and would have had to start from scratch beginning in 2021 or 2022.
I never said anything else negative about Malloy other than he just made us look desperate for the NHL. Message boards. You're crazy. Me too. As Cav mentioned in the USCHO podcast, it is built for hockey.FWIW, I am on the record here that I enjoy UConn Hockey at the XL Center.
Who cares if we look desperate for the NHL. What's the harm in that? It's not harming UConn hockey or anything else.I never said anything else negative about Malloy other than he just made us look desperate for the NHL. Message boards.
