Crazy to think that as long as Ville wins at least one of the games in their double header with USF tomorrow, we will be tied for 1st in the conference. It's a down year for the Big East which, as we all know, isn't that great to begin with. Despite all our woes, we have a very real shot at winning the conference. Of course we also have a very real shot at finishing like 5th or 6th if things don't go well but that's kind of the point. If Ward somehow snaps back into his Freshman year form, we might have something going here.

On a separate note, those team stats really quantify our frustration with the offense. We are 2nd in team AVG, tied for 1st in HR, and 2nd in 3B. So we hit for a high average and have good power numbers, yet we are 6th in the conference in Runs scored. Base running mistakes and an overall struggle at certain times with men in scoring position have doomed the offense to some degree.

This does show that the lineup has the talent to produce though which is encouraging for tournament play.

In terms of fielding and pitching, our ERA is very average (5th) but, as you would expect, our % of unearned runs to total runs allowed is far and away in the most in the conference. Most teams are between 15 and 18 %. A couple are around 21%. Ours is just over 26%. That is a pretty substantial difference. If we cut our % down to 21% to just be tied for worst in the conference, we would have allowed 17 less total runs on the season. That's almost 0.5 runs per game. Better fielding against Miss. St. would have resulted in a (relatively) signature win. We gave up 4 unearned runs in our loss to SHU and lost by 4. Even if we get just those two wins from crisper fielding, we are 25-15 overall, first in the conference and are all likely a lot more optimistic about the team in general.

Once again, this just keeps me thinking "If only they can just put it together in the field..." This team has the talent to make a run for the rest of the season and in the BET. Should be a fun ride, especially considering this is a rebuilding year.

The beauty of this rebuilding year is we are currently in 2nd place only a 1/2 game out of 1st. We get our feilding under control and we probably run away with this. Next few years should be fun. BTW, with all our infield problems this year we have 4 infielders coming in next year.

Ville finished off a win in the first game so we will officially be tied for first after today, just a matter of with who.

And for the time being, we are alone in first 1/2 game on up on St. John's, Ville and USF

Have to keep winning!!!

Beat Bryant, then the very important Louisville series (AT), I'm thinking we need 2 wins and we're good, then we come home for a series against Cincy (might need to sweep to boost our lead in the BE)

2 wins in Louisville would be remarkable. UL can be inconsistent, so it wouldn't take a miracle to win one down there, but 2 might be pushing it. We shall see.

The BE is a sad league this year. Just think of how crazy its been for us then how the heck were talking about 1st place!?!?!?! If we were in the ACC you can pencil us in right where BC is probaly. Also gtown and nova have been garbage for a while. Its sad to see that there are football schools(big time ath depts) with baseball teams that are worse. horrible.
