Yeah the 68 team NCAA tourney has done wonders for tbe basketball regular season.

Will Monmouth get a bid over the 7th Big Ten team?!?!

Is 18-15 enough to get Texas in!?!?

Sport is ignored in 90% of the country until
March.

Let’s not kill CFB the same way? K, thanks.

Agreed. The upzets are fun, but if the NCAA wanted a real bball champion, they would go 16 teams and play best of 3 game series

I’d like to see a 6 team playoff...top 2 get a bye. The G5 needs a way to get a team in the playoff...if worthy! No excuse for a top 10 undefeated G5 team to go play in the fiesta bowl and miss a chance at a National Championship just cause they play in the American!

If a playoff berths are on the line until CCG Saturday then the regular season will be just fine.

Hard to call a team best in the nation when there is a team that beat them in conference.

I really don't care if Bama or UGA gets left out. One will clearly be better but we will have no idea if they are better than the other champions.

And if Houston had vone undefeated a couple years ago, they very likely would have been in, but I agree with your point.

If it goes to 8, it could be 5 conf champs + best G5/Ind + 2 others.

Last year that would've meant:
#15 W Michigan* @ #1 Alabama*
# 7 Oklahoma* @ #2 Clemson*
#6 Michigan @ #3 Ohio St*
#5 Penn St @ #4 Washington*
(1st out:#8 Wisc, #9 USC)

In 2015:
#8 N Dame* @ #1 Clemson*
#7 Ohio St @ #2 Alabama*
#6 Stanford* @ #3 Michigan St *
#5 Iowa @ #4 Oklahoma*
(1st out: #9 Fla St)

In 2014:
#20 Boise St* @ #1 Alabama*
#7 Miss St @ #2 Oregon*
#6 TCU @ #3 Florida St*
#5 Baylor* @ #4 Ohio St*
(1st out: #8 Mich St)
Yes. That would make sense, insuring it will never happen.

128 teams competing for 16 spots won't ruin CFB. It is the right number and the teams in that spread are competitively pretty capable of holding their own against each other. It would revitalize CFB which is in decline from a fixed, uncompetitive format.

VERY interesting point you make since a winner of the above would be ESPN. WHO knows...
Follow the money trail.... when P5 conference winners get cut out of the playoff and bowl revenues suck out, maybe a new format BUT until 3 of the P5 conferences get left out leaving perhaps an SEC CHAMP, SEC runner-up, ND and somebody else, the bitching Will raise a crescendo.
Until then, imo, change won't occur.
AGAIN, IMHO, the networks and ESPN MIGHT be leaving money on the table.
Interesting though to see what happens ....

Keep it at 4. UConn’s best P5 invite comes with ND getting shut out of the playoffs. With ND not having a championship game, and missing one of the key data points, there’s a good chance a 1 loss ND team could get shut out and forced to join the ACC with UConn of course .

I was just thinking that. Why would ND ever join a conference if they open it up to 8?

The only way to 16 is to form, 4, 16 team P4 conferences. They would split into pods of 4 with the pod champs playing each other in a conference semi-final/seeet 16 round. Four conference champs make the CFP. This only adds one game to the schedule.

I sure hope not. Would be a travesty to the sport. I really think 4 is best. Beyond that, you start getting into a bunch of 2 loss teams. Yuck.

#1 vs #16 would be am undefeated team vs a 3 or 4 loss team. An upset could happen, but that is not really fair to put the undefeated team through, IMO.
Every other football division has 16 and it works fine.

And it should bring in billions and billions.

If it's 6, G5 does not get a bid. Need at least 8 if G5 wants a spot

Says who? Notre Dame?

Maybe ACC, Bug 10 etc vote for this to force them to join a conference.

Or they could do highest ranked Power 5/ND plus G5
