in football anyways

BEAST III will fall back into the pack for hoops. We'll be a top conference, just not heads and shoulders above the rest

and I'm not sure the conference being so cannibalistic was good for our health to begin with

BE 3 is still a top 1-3 BB league, but moves us to a top 5 maybe 4 FB league. It works for the time being, but still (IMHO) not a long term solution offering stability. It is a feeder league for BCS football expansion.

We joked months ago about the NCAA moving to a relegation system similar to English Football. In essence, it's what we have (modified version sonce BCS conferences aint demoting existing teams) The Sun Belt and WAC feed teams into CUSA and MWC, who in turn feed teams into the BE, who in turn feed teams into the ACC and B12, who in turn feed teams into the SEC, P12, and B10. The only difference is the teams being "promoted" aren't being promoted solely based on performance, it's by political relationships and geography.

Nailed it. Your last sentence is why this whole realignment business is so frustrating to UConn fans. Our teams have had recent unprecedented success and yet we can't seem to find a home with the real big-boy leagues.
