The link takes you to many articles about the legendary Nutmeg pitcher Steve Dalkowski. One of the articles is from todays' Courant. The stories about his fastball and lack of control are unbelievable...maybe because that's what they are.
But...true or false...they make for interesting non-basketball season reading.

Probably the most famous pitcher never to make the majors. I remember when he was in hs always being in the Hartford newspapers for his no hitters and Ks. But when he rose to levels with more selective hitters, while he still struck our many, he walked a bunch. Supposedly had a drinking problem. Major leaguers all knew who he was even if they’d never faced him. Legendary.

I think that any thought of a 120 mph fast ball is urban myth - given that no MLB pitcher has ever been clocked at more than 104.4 mph. As a stretch, it might be possible that he approached 110 mph.

Btw, Dalkowski for his long minor league career averaged 12.3 K's per 9 innings - less than that in A ball and above. The Brewers' current closer, Josh Hader, has averaged 15.4 K's per 9 innings in 104 major league games. He is averaging over 20 K's per 9 innings thus far this year. May shatter a lot of records.
