Lots of movement outside the top 5. LVs need a parachute.

For the record, I'm stunned that the pollsters dropped Tenn to 16. I thought they'd be between 13-15, but apparently they are finally looking at Tenn's body of work including squeakers over teams they should have walloped...

A few scoffed at me when I said Va Tech would be in the top 25 (i thought maybe 24). Apparently the pollsters agree somewhat - they are 31 and firmly in the "also receiving votes" category. I don't think they are a top 40 team, and they've beaten no one, but on paper, beating Tennessee still gives them that boost in the voters' minds...

Also of note - no drop for ND for losing to UCONN, and Depaul leaped up 5 spots after giving UCONN a terrific game. Deservedly so IMHO for both teams.

Princeton is #9 in Sagarin and has the 33rd most votes in AP. VTech is closer to be in ranked with the 31st most votes off the upset of now 16th ranked UTenn, though the Hokies are rated #68 in Sagarin.

No one ever said that early season AP voters were that clued in to what was going on. And yes, scoff, scoff, scoff. Just clearing my throat.

At the end of the day (season), I don't think teams that played UConn and lost should be ranked below teams that refused to play UConn (Baylor) and have one less loss. ( all else being relatively equal.) That's just my two cents.

There are so many good games this week and teams are finally starting to really play. The first couple weeks were really ugly. I for one thought Washington would beat Oklahoma.

I've been busy and not reading every post, but has it been noted that the Va .Tech coach is Dennis Wolff, the former UConn hoopster and father of Nicole Wolff, the highly regarded women's player who never overcame her injuries at UConn?

Eric , I think the polls are about right..........There is no shame in losing to UConn in a good game. So the polls reflect little to no penalty on DePaul or ND. However , the Vols situation is a whole different story. They have been sleep-walking all early season. And was punished for it with a considerable slide in the ranking. And it may get even worse if they lose a couple of more games on their upcoming road trip.

There is room for argument for everyone below No.#1.

After watching the Duke/ SC game yesterday, I would move ND up to #2 and SC down to #3.
I feel pretty much the same. Does Duke normally play that slowly? I know it's been a few years since we have played them but I certainly do not recall the games going that slowly.

The only reason Tennessee is still even in the top 20 is because their name is Tennessee. I watched most or a good part of at least 3 of their games (Chattanooga, Albany & Texas) and a smattering of VT and they're simply awful. Massey has them at 35 and Sagarin at 43, which is probably more realistic given the closeness of some of the wins against very mediocre competition and the fact that they've not had a single road game yet. They could easily be 4-4 or worse.
On the one hand it's hard to watch a once proud program disintegrating before our eyes and I feel a little for some of the more reasonable Vol fans that frequent the BY, but frankly given the way Tennessee's athletic department (and many Vol fans) acted in the wake of Maya Moore's recruitment I hope they never recover.

I agree. ND showed that they are an extremely good team, even without their two best post players. They deserve to be recognized for that tremendous performance against UCONN.

A classic example of what I call an Internet Legend (once true but not any more). Tennessee has been a ranked team since Pershing was a Private, so voters -- being too lazy to examine and evaluate the LadyVols' record -- just punch "Tennessee" on their scorecard, oblivious of results of games vs. VA Tech, Texas, Chattanooga, etc.

Boyette looked darn good in that last Texas game. Driving to the basket and everything... Kudos to Aston.

She has made huge strides (not pun intended) in her footwork. You can tell that she has been putting in a lot of individual work. Very impressive.

Looks like she is trying to prepare herself to play at the next level. She looks better than last year and seems more confident and skilled on the offensive end. At her size if she can continue to develop a more mobile game my goodness, watch out.

Ah but if that were true. BIG Gap. I am sure it will be by April but based on the ND game--the gap was 10 points. I'm not an ND or USC or even a Tn Fan --I like realism in journalism. Uconn is really good maybe it was a "given" that Uconn would beat DePaul or ND--however, I think about the tiny things it takes to not win .
