Curious to know how close to 4.8 million

That 4.8 million was a national championship game in prime time between the best, most-publicized program in WBB and the program that has the largest national fanbase.

I'll wager that yesterday's numbers will be less than 2.4 million. I'll be more interested to see how the WBB ratings compare to those of other sporting events that were televised yesterday - UFC, PGA Word Golf Championship and NASCAR. Not gonna mention MBB.

Was looking for that as well and Google doesn't seem to know, so I'm guessing the numbers aren't out.

I doubt it was anywhere near 2.4 million. That's national semi-final level, and that was UConn vs ND in 2014. You can expect the rating to drop the further you are from the finals.

You’d only get the major markets in the overnight ratings. That’s usually accurate enough for almost anything, but with this being the first time you might need to wait for the full sample.

Sportsmediawatch.com predicted the Iowa game would get a 0.59 rating which would mean about 900k viewers.

Keep in mind that this years games went directly up against the men’s games (and a great weather day in much of the east) which will cut into viewership.

Numbers is thousands of viewers on average that were watching the broadcast. For heavily viewed cable, the additional decimals are the percentage of people 18-49, then F18-49, M18-49, 18-34, F12-34, M12-34, 25-54, and 50+ who were watching on average. Saturday's ABC games got an additional level of numbers that is percentage of 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 watching on average.

UFC .718, Saturday Golf 1.524, NASCAR had weather so we will go with figure skating, which was 1.462. I will mention MBB, but the NIT championship, which is always an interesting comparison, averaging 827,000 viewers on a Sunday instead of the usual weekday.
