Ann represents so much of the values that the Uconn basketball program has instilled in their graduates. Wouldn't you say her accomplishments are more gratifying than a WBA championship? or any professional basketball accolades? I am moved so much by these individuals who give back to those less fortunate. This should be a recruiting film for Geno and his staff.

In 2002 Strother became only the second high school player in USA Basketball history to receive the honor of playing for the Junior World Championship Team (U19}, the other being Lisa Leslie in 1989. Geno Auriemma coached the USA team that year. After that she decided to commit to UConn. Strother was named the Naismith High School National Player of the Year in her senior year (2002) and was the 2001-02 girl's basketball Gatorade National Player of the Year.

As I said in an earlier thread, "thankfully we all got the pleasure of knowing these young ladies and watching them grow into woman who are ready to take on the world." It appears that Ann has taken the lessons and values learned through her family, friends, teachers, fellow players and UCONN coaches to utilize her abilities to help others for no other reason then she is the person that can get it done. She is not only a great basketball player, but a beautiful and gracious woman. And us fans should always grateful that Ann chose UCONN over the southern woman of orange. Let the season begin.

Always have been one of my favorites. Her character, post UCONN is what I saw during her collegiate years. Once again, the intangibles gained far exceed basketball.

Among all the wonderful things about Ann Strother, I think she's never received enough credit for what she did at UCONN on the court. She was a starter and double figure scorer on two championship teams.
