I know this is Blasphemy, but AAC football is very watchable. Only thing missing vs P5 action are bigger stadiums and a few more fans in the seats, otherwise the product is just as exciting.

Very true. It's even more exciting than some P5 matchups. We've got high flying offense, blue collar teams, and some fun cities to travel to in New Orleans, Philly and Annapolis.

AAC football is better than expected. The national media has caught on that (on average) the conference is just a half-step or a quarter-step behind the P5. It's not like the gap between MLB and AAA baseball which many people predicted.

It's very good football. The conference simply lacks the marquee programs that make up roughly 20% of the P5 conferences. The top half of the conference cannot compete with the upper tier programs of the P5 year in and year out. After that, it's all very competitive. I actually don't see UCONN being uncompetitive with our regional competitors in the P5 (BC, Cuse, Rutgers). In fact, there is a scenario that those programs remain so uncompetitive for so long in their respective conferences that UCONN becomes a more attractive destination for fans and recruits. I really don't think that is out of the question. Eventually, you have to win.

If the AAC could convince teams at the top of the MWC (namely CSU and BSU) that college football is headed towards four power conferences and we'd better prepare to create the best possible mid major, we could hopefully get them in the American and make a push for the scraps of the Big 12 once that inevitably fails. A conference with Boise State, Colorado State, and maybe WVU, K State, perhaps Baylor and or TCU would be pretty solid. Honestly, that may be our best bet moving forward. Hopefully we end up in the ACC by that time due to Clemson/FSU/Miami bolting, but an AAC of that nature would be a solid backup.

This already happened and Boise and San Diego State backed out.

SDSU was with us so briefly, but they were all in. They went back to the MWC kicking and screaming.

Boise backed out because they got a sweet (special) deal.

If the Big 12 breaks up, I think the scraps would look at the AAC very closely.

There isn't room for all those scraps. There will have to be a best of the rest conference and it will likely be called the Big 12 due to the brand equity the name brings.
