Bottom 8th, Dalena with a 1 out walk. Garbowski pinched hit for Hyde, he gets a single, a throwing error allows Dalena to score and Garbowski to advance to 2B. 9-7 UConn.

Of course, Garbowski takes over at catcher.

Willis has been fantastic since the SDSU game months ago.

Nice win today. Butler isn't as good on offense as Hofstra so it's a good opportunity for our starting pitching to gain confidence.

A great midweek win for the Huskies especially with Hofstra at 118 in the live RPI. Could definitely see the Pride as an NCAA Tournament team so that’s a quality win for sure. Great resilient performance

  • The Huskies are now 7-8 on the year when they've been outhit by their opponent.
  • Wednesday's game was only the seventh game this season that the Huskies have committed multiple errors in a contest.
  • David Smith had played in all 112 games with 111 starts during his time at UConn prior to missing Wednesday night's game with injury. It ended a streak of 99-straight starts.
  • Zach Fogell appeared in his 29th game this season, ranking T8th most in a single-season (Caleb Wurster, 36, 2019) <-

Watched the game on Uconn+. Pro tip: if you can synch up Jonesy's radio call with the video stream it's top-shelf stuff.
Anyway, good win. It is becoming very apparent that this season will ride on the starting pitching as the bullpen seems to be mostly sorted out. That first test will be in the BE tourney. If your starters can't get through the 3rd-4th innings you will simply run out of relief pitching in these tourney formats. It's not like the regular season. Also, I think it's a huge plus they know they can come from behind but as you play tougher teams that's harder to do. So starting pitching the key. Can't keep digging early holes. I would wait until Smitty is 100% before bringing him back even if it means sitting some this weekend. His entire game is predicated on his legs so make sure they are 100% before returning. Daniels is more than capable of holding down the fort. Like the pop in Dalena's bat. He's sort of like Huber in one aspect: would like to see him expand his zone a bit. Odd request but I think it would help him. Future is bright with Daniels/Dalena when Ben and Smitty leave.
