Top 8th, Georgetown leads off the inning with 2 singles and a walk to load the bases. Sears comes out of the game, Nowak comes in to pitch.

Hoping UConn doesn't have to use any of their top people out of the bullpen with a 10 run lead late in the game, but we'll see what happens.

After a strikeout, a sac fly for the 2nd out brings in a run. 11-2 UConn. A 3 run homer makes it 11-5 UConn going to the bottom of the inning.

Bottom 8th, UConn offense with no outs loads the bases with 2 walks and an infield error.

After a pitching change, Daniels pinch hits for Kron, which makes me think me might see Simmons play the outfield in the bottom of the inning. Daniels with a no out RBI single to drive in a run, 12-5 UConn. Huskies leave the bases loaded.

Top 9th, Simmons takes over in CF, and Braden Quinn comes in to pitch. Great to see Simmons playing again.

3 thoughts on this one:
1) Sears is improving with every start and is probably our Friday starter now.
2) Welcome back, Mr. Quinn. He has the stuff to contribute. Is he this year's Devin Kirby, who started in low leverage situations halfway through last yr to becoming a stalwart down the stretch and into the tournaments?
3) Hope Huber is OK.

Quinn showed some promise last season. I believe the coaching staff liked his stuff, and figured he would play a notable role on the pitching staff this season. However, when the season started he did not show much in the way of controlling his stuff. At this point in the season, that may be changing a bit. Possibly another guy we may see more of as the season continues.

1) When Sears can change speeds for strikes he is tough to hit. That's the key. When I saw him live at Cal Berkley rain game he had today's type of stuff. He can dominate. Now is he going to be at this level every start? Of course not. But this is a guy who should be a quality weekend starter at D1 level. He was aggressive, worked with pace, and was in command.
2) Huber I thought it was a hammy originally then a walking boot so I don't know. Huber has been such a mainstay but Dalena will have to step up if needed.
3) Nice to see Simmons back in CF. Will be interesting how that plays out. Will he be a late-inning sub for defensive purposes? Will he start? He has no redshirt left and in any event, he played too many games so that's moot.
4) I was a tad surprised with the small ball early (Dom bunting etc.) when they have been playing such high-scoring games. But Penders had a hunch on the pitching. haha.
5) Bullpen is still WIP but if Quinn can emerge obviously that helps.
6) Uconn+ is a high-quality production.

Ben Huber is using a crutch, shown on the video stream.

Chris Jones says it is a foot injury, and that Huber will have an MRI this Tuesday. He is out for the rest of this weekend. He could be back next week, or he could miss most of the rest of the season depending how serious it is.

Bottom 1st, Smith with a leadoff single, he advances to 3B on a 1 out Freeberger single on which Freeberger is thrown out trying to turn it into a double for the 2nd out. UConn offense with a scoreless inning. No score.

Top 3rd, a 1out double followed by a triple makes it 1-0 for Georgetown with 1 out. A 2 out double drives in another run, 2-0 Georgetown.
