Where did that come from all of a sudden? And why? That gives us at best 170 or so words per post, which is about 15-25 sentences. That prevents any sort of lengthy discussion.

    _______________

For the record, the above text contains four sentences, 34 words, and 177 characters. In terms of the character limit, that gives us 26 sentences and 227 words. However, this may be offset since "and why?" was one of the sentences. the average English word is 5 characters, and the average sentence is 14 words. Including spacing and punctuation, this gives us at least 90 characters per sentence. In turn, this allows us 13 sentences. So clearly this is stupid. And I have a feeling this is too many characters.

Edit: Surprisingly, it was only 703. If it were twice as long, it would be almost 15% too long by your standards.

I agree. Down with this limit! Yes, one could chop a longer message into multiple posts, but that's a pain in the rear end and generally asinine to require of anyone. I've never posted in a forum that was thusly limited.

    This limit makes no sense.

Pic size limit, yes. Character limit at 1180? Makes little sense.

The limit's already causing people to break up posts into 5+ individual posts. Surely that was not the intention.

Also, FWIW, I think the image limit is pretty damn small too. I think it should just be limited to signatures. Putting a limit means not being able post images like the legendary Kemba MSG Pitt game pic.

Agreed with the above. I've been lurking for a good while now, I haven't yet been annoyed by long posts or large pictures.

Signature pictures are another story, though. IMO, sig pictures should be limited to perhaps 200px height. Embedded video in the sig shouldn't be allowed at all.

I'm not sure what the link between max picture size and max character limit is supposed to be, though. I'm not familiar with this forum software, but I've never heard of one where limiting the pics puts a harsh limit on the text. Normally there's some way to regulate the pics without any effect on the text.

add me to the growing list of people who don't like it. it's really not 1180 characters, but much much less.

Well, now it appears to be an 1800 character limit. Still frustrating.

Text limit is a bad idea. I agree with the limitation on signature pics.

I think it is a solution in search of a problem.

It's been brought up and we'll see if it changes.

This will definitely cause me to post less. Mentioned on the football board. I spent hours rewatching and replaying the Pitt game, an hour writing up a detailed analysis, and then couldn't post. WOuld have had to break it up into about 10 separate posts. Gave up trying to figure out how to chop posts.

Long posts often have alot of thought put in. They generate alot of good discussion. This just makes no sense to me.
