I know it is a minor point, but I thought Stewart scored 104 points in her five games. Then I saw someone say 105, and I assumed I had just made a mistake.

These articles (and many more)
Breanna Stewart leads Connecticut to women's championship
UConn women cruise to 8th NCAA title
UConn women rout Louisville for 8th title

say 105.

I added them up and got 104.

As also reported by
With 8 titles, UConn starting next dynasty?

Any one with any thought on why there are two different numbers. It may be as simple as one person got it wrong, and a lot just copied it, but I wondered if there was more.

The UConn site say 105.

The report about her scoring 105 was I believe originated by the same source that said UConn was going for its 10th NC next year. I believe the culprit is the Gremlin Gazette.

Phil - The NCAA site has Stewarts' points as follows:

Vandy 14
MD 17
KY 21
ND 29
LV 23

That adds up to 104. The UConn site box scores also add up to 104 points. IMO somebody added wrong.

If UConn stands a good chance of winning its 10th title next year, then Stewart scored 105 points.

I see the UConn site has an AP feed. My guess is someone at the AP messed up, and everyone is simply copying them.

Oh the angst of being a stat geek. :(

On the one hand it doesn't matter, but i have a feeling it will be oft-cited, like Schuey's nine blocks, so it would be nice if we memorize the right value. Or better yet, she blows the doors off the number next year, and it just becomes a quaint historical number.

UConn going for #10 next year reminds me of the strange box scores from the trip to Italy a couple of years ago. I think Brianna Banks shot something like 9 for 8. I thought, "Damn, even Maya couldn't do that!"

What a slacker. Given the numerical progression detailed by VT, Breanna should have scored approx. 36 against LV.

My first ever post on the BY many years ago and a couple host services past was an innocent query about why UConn didn't have Pam Webber shoot even more 3s during her senior year in 1994-95 since she was listed in the UConn records as having shot 75% for the year, which I thought was a pretty astounding 3-pt shooting percentage and should have been used even more frequently than Pam pumped them. My first response was from Phil, who utterly and permanently crushed my faith in human nature and sports records by gently telling me that the UConn and NCAA records were known to have a few wrong numbers and were also missing some important record achievements. This I have found in much subsequent perusing of the records to be very true.

The other responses all revolved with many sighs around Pam and how much joy certain old-guy BYers had watching her play for UConn.

104 or 105? May I suggest we blow our resident stat geeks minds and credit her with 104.5?

Wow, that's quite a burden I have to bear :) But I agree with you about watching Pam.
