Steven Enoch Enjoys His Visit
|Possibly the biggest riser this summer so far in college basketball recruiting is the big man from Connecticut, Steven Enoch. Attending Norwalk High School and playing AAU ball for High Rise Team Up in the summer Enoch has been garnering high praise all summer for recruiting analysts.
After the Pangos All-American camp Steven had built his status up to a top 50 recruit in 2015. He was set to confirm his new rankings this past week at the NBA Top 100 camp but he was sidelined due to an injury.
Enoch took a visit to Storrs early in May and he talked about it in great detail with me, “Me, my coach, mother and father went to what seemed like a refined campus at UConn. We met the coaches and had a good talk with them that I enjoyed personally because the coaches seemed they were as excited to meet us as I was to meet them. After the meeting my parents, coach, and I walked around campus and I liked how everyone was busy out on campus and very diversified. We headed to the food court to get food and after that we met up with a couple of the coaches because the others had to be on their way at that time and we visited what was soon to be the new practice facility. Everything was still sort of being built but we got to see the courts and man the amount of space there was unreal. We also visited the football practice facility which was also fascinating. And that was the visit.” Judging from that it sounds like he had a pretty good visit.
Steven will be taking another visit to campus this Thursday he confirmed to me yesterday. That day could be a very big day for UConn basketball. With a possible future UConn Husky visiting two, maybe even three, players from this years national championship team may be drafted. That will just continue the tradition of UConn basketball players being drafted and playing in the NBA.
With some people saying Enoch grew up a UConn fan and that UConn is his dream school I asked him if playing close to home for the big state school is something that he likes. “Yeah, it’s always great to perform in front of the ones who have supported you ever since.”
UConn is far from the only school recruiting him right now. With his meteoric rise has come major options for him to play college basketball. He told me he’s receiving interest from schools in the ACC, American Athletic, Big East, Big 12, Colonial Athletic, MAAC, PAC 12, and the SEC. UConn certainly has quite a few schools to beat out for his services.
If UConn was to get the Connecticut big man coach Ollie would be getting someone that describes himself as someone who, “Plays defense, blocking/contesting shots. I have good dribbling and shooting skills that I work on everyday. I need to improve on my rebounding and I train to gain quickness, speed, and strength. I’ve also been working on my versatility for a long time because I want to be able to expand my game so that I can do a little of everything,” he explained. Every camp that he has attended has resulted in him drawing rave reviews that he’s one of the hardest workers there.
One other thing Enoch and I talked about was what he wants in his college coach. “I want someone who is committed to the success of their players not only on the court but off the court as well,” he said. Coach Ollie certainly seems to fit that mold so far in his coaching career.
With Steven Enoch visiting again on Thursday it certainly shows their is high interest from both the coaching staff and Enoch himself. We will see if the staff can close the deal on him sooner than later before more schools can get involved. He would certainly be welcomed very well if he was to commit.
