Recruiting update – Stanley Johnson
|by 3uconn
UConn offered 2014 small forward Stanley Johnson a few weeks ago he said but as most of us know the news came out on March 5th. Johnson is another elite West Coast player in the upcoming classes. He was down to Arizona, San Diego State, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina State, Oregon, Syracuse, UCLA, UNLV, and USC. In an article that came out today he said this about UConn “We just talked a little bit. [Coach Ollie] said he was interested and he offered me a scholarship. I’ve heard some pretty good things about them. They have a new coach (Kevin Ollie). I’ve heard some good things about him from family and people I really trust. I just want to hear him out.” The fact that he said he heard good things about Kevin Ollie from his family is great for UConn.
As for his game, Johnson is a big time player. He has size, 6’6″, and strength, 200lbs, which enable him to finish with contact when he gets into the lane. And he gets into the lane often. He has very good handle for his size and likes his right to left crossover. He uses his skill to score, which he has a knack to do. Johnson also has a good IQ for the game. He makes plays when he needs to, to help his team. As for his shooting, it’s coming along. His shot has vastly improved over the last year or two but still has more room to improve. Once he strengthens that part of his offensive arsenal he will be unstoppable.
As for his future, he plans to cut his list to seven schools or less shortly after the end of his high school season. Johnson said that the two in-state colleges will be on that list. Those two are USC and UCLA. He will most likely visit them again unofficially and then officially visit the other schools that are further away. Look for his updated list in the upcoming weeks.
