Quick Recap of Diaco on AAC Conference Call
|I was unable to ask questions, but did listen in, here’s a quick summary.
On the game against Stony Brook:
“Saturday was a hard fought game, credit to Stony Brook and their staff, they are a well-coached and seasoned team. Coach Priore has been a head coach for a long time and at the same place for awhile, so it shows and you could see a seasoned team that understands what they are trying to do.
“They had talented players, were an aggressive team, with aggressive players and they play the way the game should be played. They’ve had a number of games against FBS opponents, with a triple OT game and another OT game, so they are doing a nice job there and such was the case Saturday afternoon.
“It was a hard fought, entertaining 4 quarters if you were able to watch or be there, so it was fun that way and the team had to battle through adversity. Again, we didn’t start the game like we wanted to, it’s tough to win games by spotting 7—14 points right out of the shoot, with a turnover TO in the end zone, recovered for a touchdown, a fumbled ball recovered at the 19, which the defense showed great grit forcing a field goal there. I was pleased with how our defense played for the day, they showed excellent improvement from game 1 to game 2, including detailed eye progression, which we’ve worked on.
“Our specialists performed well and were the difference in the game, both return and kicking specialists. We did a much better job with penalties, decreased them from 8 to 3 in week 2. Effort penalties are okay, I’m not necessarily okay with any, but pre-snap are inexcusable. We had 2 offensive pre-snap penalties, with movement and alignment, so that just shows a lack of discipline and detail, which is not one of our traits, so we have to get that corrected, but good to see them decrease from 8 to 3.”
On Boise State Saturday:
“This week, everyone understands the challenge, an offensive juggernaut is coming to town. They are fast moving, fast paced, I’m not sure how, but they were able to have 63 offensive plays in the first half alone last game. It’s fast moving, fast paced, with fast athletes on offense, which creates a major problem for the defense, so it will be a fun challenege for our defense all week to get ready for that. Their other 2 phases are obviouisly excellent as well. They are a nationally recognized team, with BCS success in the recent past.”
