Paul Pasqualoni Out As Head Coach

Paul Pasqualoni was fired as head coach of the UConn football team today. Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced that Offensive Coordinator T.J. Weist has been named Interim Head Coach for the rest of the 2013 season.

“I am very pleased to elevate T.J. to our interim head coaching position,” said Manuel. “T.J. will bring energy and enthusiasm to our football team as we embark on our American Athletic Conference schedule. T.J. will provide stability to our football student-athletes during this time of transition and will also effectively oversee all elements of our football program including game preparation, classroom success and recruiting.”

Weist will remain the Huskies’ Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach.

Pasqualoni’s teams were 10-18 during his tenure at UConn. After two flaccid efforts against Towson and Maryland, it seemed the season was doomed until the Huskies teased fans with a sterling effort against Michigan at Rentschler Field. Alas, it wasn’t to be. The Huskies were most recently rolled 40-12 by MAC team Buffalo en route to an 0-4 start to the season, causing fans and Connecticut media to call for Pasqualoni’s dismissal.

Also let go was Associate Head Coach and Offensive Line Coach George DeLeone. The once stout UConn offensive line had become a shambles, leading to UConn’s being ranked 123rd (out of 123) in rushing offense (45.8 yards/game). Mike Foley will take over the Offensive Coordinator position.
