Men’s Basketball Offers JeKeenan Gant
|by 3uconn
UConn offered class of 2014 small forward JeKeenan Gant. This offer is intriguing because he is a friend and AAU teammate with another UConn recruit, Ahmed Hill. The staff may be looking to possibly get a package deal for the two of them. UConn looks to be in very good shape with Ahmed Hill as they have been recruiting him for a while and recruiting him hard. JaKeenan Gant is a highly rated player. Most rankings have him right about the 25 mark. He’s rated highly due to his being 6’8″ and 200 pounds and able to play the small forward and some power forward.
In 31 games for Effingham County High School this past season he averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game. His best attribute is his athleticism. When he gets a chance to be near the basket to dunk, he dunks. He routinely has a few highlight dunks per game. He’s able to make the mid-range jump shot with some consistency and will make an occasional three. Gant will have to improve his shot to continue to play at the small forward position in college. He’ll also have to improve his dribbling which is good enough to serve him well in high school but small forwards in college he’ll get his pocket picked if he doesn’t improve that aspect of his game. However, with his size he can play the power forward which makes him a versatile player for the college he chooses. When he gets on the floor for that college, you will know as he brings a tremendous energy to the game when he is in. He plays every play like its the last one he will ever play in. His hits the glass hard on both the offensive and defensive end for his team.
As I mentioned before, the coaching staff may be looking at him as part of a package deal with Ahmed Hill. I would be perfectly fine with that as both are elite players in their class. He said about a month ago in an interview that he plans on cutting his list down to about seven schools this summer. Some schools that are after him are Syracuse, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, Cincinnati, Clemson, and Missouri among others. We will have to look closely to see what he says about UConn as it may be true for him and Ahmed Hill.
