Malachi Richardson Gets An Offer

Late Sunday night Malachi Richardson, the Class of 2015 shooting guard, tweeted this, “@TheLifeOfMali23: Just got a offer from the university of Connecticut.” Richardson goes to Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey and plays for Team Final on the AAU circuit. The 6’5″ 195 lb Richardson has said that he grew up a fan of Indiana and Syracuse, even naming them as dream schools in the past and who are now both recruiting him. He will be visiting both of them this August as well as Miami and Florida, who offered him this past Saturday. In addition to those offers Richardson also has offers from Cincinnati, Ohio State, Rutgers, Seton Hall, SMU, and James Madison. He could add UConn to his list of favorites if the Huskies start recruiting him heavier because he said all of this before he got the UConn offer late this weekend. At this point, he is still a ways away from a decision unless one school blows him away, as he’s only a sophomore.
Now onto the game side of shooting guard Malachi Richardson. He does exactly what his position says, he shoots, and he’s good at it. In the EYBL sessions this year he is averaging 15 points a game. Most players in his class may not have the greatest shot yet but he has a very consistent one from beyond the arc. He easily shoots over defenders with a confident stroke. His stroke is easily the best part of his game. However, he also has the ability to handle the ball well for a shooting guard. He’s not always looking for his own shot because he can create for others at times. He will need to work on getting others more involved around him and driving to the basket to be more rounded at his position. Right now defenders can close out to him stronger because he knows he can just shoot over most of them. But when he plays against bigger and better competition he can’t do it as easily so he will need to work on a good pump fake and then getting to the rim.
