Frank Verducci Named New Offensive Coordinator

Just came out over an hour ago that Frank Verducci is joining the UConn staff as the new offensive coordinator.  He’s coming from Northern Iowa, which doesn’t scream, “Offensive Juggernaut” to me, but a deeper look into his coaching career makes me think this is a solid hire.  The guy has 31 years of coaching experience, and has ties to Diaco from his time at Iowa.  He’s coached in college and at the NFL level, and is from New Jersey, which may help in recruiting.  Most importantly, Verducci seems to have plenty of experience and success with the running game, which is in desperate need of improvement.  With Ron Johnson and Arkeel Newsome being our most dangerous offensive weapons, we’ve got to find a way to get them going.  I’m hoping Verducci will do that.

My only reservation about this hire is that Verducci doesn’t seem to have any experience being an offensive coordinator and calling plays.  I’m sure the guy knows what he’s doing, and I’m sure Diaco trusts him to do a fantastic job, but if I had to find something wrong with the hire, that’d be it.

Here’s the link to uconnhuskies.com with a nice write-up on our new offensive coordinator, Frank Verducci.
