Dikembe Dixson Updates His Recruitment

Dixson is a 6’7″ 184 lbs. small forward in the class of 2015 who has been on UConn’s radar. As of this spring he was basically unknown by high major college programs. However, after taking part in a couple of camps and tournaments that has all changed.

“Texas, Kentucky, Marshall, West Virginia, Oregon, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Stanford, and Indiana State,” are currently the schools that are after him the most. That’s a major change from where he was before by adding Texas and Kentucky among other major college programs to his list in the last couple months. Dixson did mention that two schools were after him the hardest as of now, “Marshall offered me then Texas is probably recruiting me the hardest after Marshall.” As of now UConn isn’t recruiting him much but someone from the staff was out to watch him a little over a month ago.

Despite UConn not actively recruiting him he still has a lot of interest in UConn. This was clearly evident when I asked him what he relationship was like with the staff, “Not that good. We don’t really talk that much but I would love to get a great bond with him [Coach Ollie] so we can get comfortable around with each other.” He also said what he like about the UConn program, “I like the way they play. They get up and down the floor and that’s when I can play my game, break someone down and attack the rim. That’s the advantage I have, on fast breaks.” All of his highlight videos show that. He’s very good in transition with his speed and athleticism.

Another advantage he will have eventually is his height. Standing around 6’7″ now he said that his doctor told him he may reach 6’10”. If that does happen Dixson said he will still want to play shooting guard and small forward like Kevin Durant does. At this point he believes his strengths and weaknesses are, “My strengths are I have a great motor, can dribble, shoot, and am very good at driving and rebounding. I’m good at timing my blocks as well. My weaknesses are going left and my strength but my left is whole lot better. I’ve also gotten stronger.”

At this point he’s taken a visit to one school so far. “I took a visit to Kentucky and that’s it so far. Next is Louisville, then Texas, and then Florida. Hopefully that works out.” Despite being relatively new to being majorly recruited he knows what he’s looking for in his coach. He wants his coach, “To help me get better physically and mentally. Someone that will get on me for my mistakes and correct me when it’s needed. But at the same time he cares about winning but the players more.”

Dikembe Dixson is one to watch at this point for UConn fans. His high school season will determine a lot about who offers him and starts making him their top priority. UConn could certainly make a move on him in the future.
