Darren McFarland (ESPN Radio Nashville) Clarifies the Statements Made on Cincy/Memphis to the Big 12
|I was able to contact Darren McFarland of ESPN Radio Nashville via email after inviting him on this week’s Roadshow last night. He politely declined and clarified what was said on the air.
“While I understand the importance and sensitivity of this subject matter for several schools, including yours, that will be rumored for these 2 slots in the Big 12,” he said, “I am by no means saying this is or will be a done deal with Memphis & Cincinnati. As you know, this is a fluid situation and will remain that way until the decision is made by the conference.”
McFarland continued.
“I do believe that the conference is going to expand soon but I certainly wasn’t hitting the “breaking news” sounder when I spoke on the matter for about 90-120 seconds of a 4 hour show that I do 5 days a week and honestly haven’t mentioned it again. I trust the people that I’ve talked to, but certainly am not pretending to be covering or chasing this story. I’ve broken stories over the years and if I felt as strongly as I did on those with this subject, I would be more than happy to chat with you on a podcast.”
Based on this, it does seem he has heard confirmation that the Big 12 will be looking to expand, potentially with just two schools, but they have not yet settled on who those schools will be.
I’ll have some more on this later from Rentschler Field as the Huskies take the field for the final time in 2014, on senior day, against SMU.
