I posted this on the MBB board but probably more important to post here with CFB season in full swing.

YTTV was nice while it lasted. It’s past time to find an alternative.
It’s so difficult to figure out what is the best option now especially if you are a sports fan. On Saturdays…I still prefer just flipping channels between games on regular cable TV. Streaming is more awkward. ESPN+ multi view is fine…but what about games not on ESPN? Backing out and switching apps is annoying…and I have Apple TV which makes it a bit easier.

I haven’t cut the cord yet because I still prefer the ease of traditional cable. And now that YTTV keeps jacking up prices, I guess I will just stick to my cable and 20 apps…lol.

YTTV was great because it felt exactly like traditional cable.

Cable isn’t even substantially more expensive anymore. Very soon any worthy live streaming service will be about 100 bucks per month plus internet cost. Cable is almost worth it now to pay a little extra and not worry about the stupid carriage disputes.

Hulu Live (it's bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+) -- All the regular cable networks plus the ESPN+ games all available to flip around through.

Yes, cable is when you consider all the other content out there you want. Also, the fees for cable are ridiculous.

Considering Comcast and ESPN had a dispute earlier this year I don't think going w/cable is going to insulate you from carrier disputes

I am so sick of getting milked for every last cent in my pocket. it's never enough.
meanwhile P4 schools are getting bigger and bigger paydays, and pro sport contracts are growing faster than inflation.

i'm tired of being asked to foot the bill for someone else's endless hunger.
split all the games and shows up into 10 different apps and make me pay 20/mo for each one. fantastic.
and slowly increase internet cost each renewal period.

pretty soon sports fans be paying 200+/mo to be able to watch all their games of interest.

This.

If you're looking at Cable rates from websites, you're not comparing all-in costs.

Spectrum adds over 20/month just for a broadcast fee. it knocks it out of price contention with streaming off the bat.

Which is pretty much the same as the old cable bundles (but you got your internet with it). The future of a la carte was never going to save money in the long run, it was teaser rates to get adoption and then control content that can drive subscriptions. Considering many people will subscribe to a service for one particular hot show, you don't need to control or develop a lot of content just hit on a couple to build your numbers.

I’m locked in for 2 years of the medium tier, plus sports package, of DirecTV Stream for $145/month. It’s pricey, but I get anything and all the RSNs I need.

I think I’m just going to stick with YTTV for now. Most likely, we’ll have ESPN etc back in a few days or weeks. I like the interface. Otherwise, I’m going back to Comcast. I really don’t feel like using cable boxes, so I guess I’ll wait a while.

We can sit here all day and compare but you're totally off base here. Case in point, Mike here is paying $145 a month for everything plus RSNs. Sorry, but if you want that on "streaming" then you will end up paying all that and more. I can get a decent package from by Fiber Company for $100 a month minus RSNs.

YTTV was a dream but the price was artificially low to build a base. It has gotten a bad rep for price increases because they are now trying to recoup some gains. They know it and now sadly ESPN has them over the barrel. They won't let consumers get their product for less instead of subscribing to Disney's own service.

What's going to happen is that YTTV will cave and fees will go up yet again.

The only reason I haven't gone back yet is that YTTV has an elite DVR option. Which at this point I still value more than ESPN and it's dumb family of networks.

But with the way things are going, people will gluing the cord back together or ditching their subscriptions because the fact that it was "cheaper" was really just a mirage.

Wait 145 a month?!.. Who sold you that? Direct tv app on Roku has a sports stream package and its only $69 a month no contracts. It does not have the multi view feature like youtube tv but it has a seperate great feature that brings all your games into a "sports zone" with scores of each games so you can click through and see the scores or click the score to see the game in one place.

Anyone in limbo with Youtube TV stuck with out ESPN etc who has a Roku or streaming stick I recommend doing their 7 day free Trial this weekend.

Do you get all the RSNs?

Oh, you still have to worry about those things.

We cut the cord which also coincides with our kids schedules keeping us very busy. result is I watch a lot less tv and I miss many games. I'm sure I'm in the minority. We did subscribe to Peacock because there was a really cheap deal but I just can't be bothered with trying to figure it all out, and these media companies are the sleaziest of them all. I want the biggest bang for my buck so if someone has a cheat sheet, that would be helpful.

interesting. I always want to understand how services like this make money before I trust their recommendations….all I can find is this.

Suppose guides you through the complexity and gives unbiased search results. Clicking on a Free Trial or Sign Up button helps support Suppose, but our search results are not influenced by any financial compensation.

I will try this later after the UConn game.

It isn't YTTV that has the problem. ABC / Disney / ESPN have the problem and eventually it is going to kill off a large part of their service as they're forced to go streaming only. And nobody is going to pay what they want.

I cut the cord several years ago to IPTV services. It’s streaming but portable and you get everything. I mean everything. I’ve watched the Husky road games on espn +
plus all the NFL games.

Yes, it’s $145/month but it includes the sports pack, plus my RSNs, and every kid channel available for my almost 4 year old plus all the channels my wife wants. We have 3 genies that plug into the HDMI cable in the tv on 3 tvs that comes with a controller and it has all the apps like Max, Paramount, Disney, Peacock, etc built in. It’s basically cable. We hated their app on the Roku bc it always froze, etc. so we locked this in. I can switch from Amazon Prime to ABC to Peacock to ESPN to SNY to YES to MSG to Nick JR back to Peacock without logging in and out of diff apps, etc. I had Hulu Live+ and for the extra $15/month (Hulu Live + Gotham Sports App last year to get MSG) to have it all in one system was worth it. Before that I had Spectrum and was closing in at around $300 for internet/cable. When DirecTV Stream contract expires in 18 more months I’ll see what my options are then. I’m hoping this Fubo/Hulu Live deal brings a good option.

As for the RSNs ZooCougar asked about I’m in Monroe so I’m right on the NY/CT demographic line so I get MSG, SNY, YES, NESN and NBC Sports Boston.

  • Get Hulu live with Disney/ESPN+ included. It's $89/mo and it's easy to pause it during the off-season.
  • Wait for Black Friday to buy Peacock because they usually run an inexpensive intro price. Last year I got a full year for $19.99.

Not at all. They will come to an agreement and YTTV prices will increase. Disney knows what they are doing here, they have them over a barrel here.
