.....Rutgers, The Birthplace of B1G College Football....
just below her belly button and right above her landing strip.

They got a good deal.

Well, some of that difference will be due to BTN keeping all TV rights so there's less to monetize.

No doubt that UConn will be higher either way though.

No spin, no biased mumbo jumbo, fit the facts to your narrative clap-trap. Just cold hard cash as the metric for a program's worth to its market.

In 2008 UCONN signed an IMG deal worth $80 million over 10 years-$8m a year.

Rutgers just signed their IMG deal. $65 million over 11 years. $5.9 million per year.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2013/07/a_big_deal_for_rutgers_partnersip_with_img_college_will_be_worth_65_million_over_11_years.html[/quote]

$65 million over 11 years. $5.9 million per year PLUS profit-sharing.

You conveniently left out that part. That is something that UCONN does not have...and according to the Star-Ledger, that could be another 2 to 6 million a year on top of the guarantee.

But I'm sure you don't want to hear that part.

Get lost Mrs Barchi, go pee on someone else's leg, don't act all uppity because RU is in a real conference due the luck of location, not due to anything else, such as athletics.

Not so fast my orange-hued friend. That's part of all of IMG's deals.

In addition to the $80 million guarantee, there are incentives built into the contract for UConn to recoup more money. If IMG takes in more than a given amount of revenues with regard to UConn's rights, the school will receive a bonus payment equal to 50 percent of the excess net revenue.

There is no way for Rutgers fanboys to spin this. UCONN in the old Big East is worth more to IMG than Rutgers in the Big Ten. That statement is so incredibly delicious that it bears repeating: UCONN in the old Big East is worth more to IMG than Rutgers in the Big Ten.

@buggsy

UCONN has revenue sharing in its deal. Where did you get $2M-$6M? Did you make that up? Also, you left out the fact that Rutgers is starting out $7M in the hole due to their buyout. Lastly, $28M in subsidies speaks for itself.

In the schoolyard, this would be considered piling on. But heck, it feels too good:

The guaranteed payout to the school will make the deal one of the most lucrative in the country, matching the terms of IMG College’s deal with Kentucky and putting it close to equal footing with Texas.

UConn is considered such a valuable property because the school owns the state in terms of fan interest, with very little competition from other schools. It’s also coveted because of its proximity to New York.

Steve Politi said it in one of his articles. Not making it up. Where is it announced that UCONN has revenue sharing? That sounds like you are making it up...since RU has it.

Not all schools have that. Especially deals that were made years ago, like Rutgers.

And the 7 million RU paid out to get out of their old deal? The new deal pays that off in the first year.

That article on UCONN in the sports Business Journal mentions nothing about profit sharing between IMG and UCONN. WHere are you getting that they share profits? Unless it is specifically stated, they do not.

You bring up a good point, even with its admission into the Big Ten Rutgers still lags UCONN.

Buggsy, you are new to IMG's contracts. Educate yourself before you look even more foolish.

Interesting to revisit that:

IMG has taken a great number of projects away from the Huskies. That's a positive for the school, it seems.

"We don't print posters anymore. We don't print schedule cards anymore. We don't do the UConn corporate partners' golf outing anymore," Hathaway said. "They have taken all those expenses off our books."
So perhaps us yarders who are in various stages of anger about UConn's athletics marketing / promo - or lack therof - should direct our anger towards IMG, eh?

It's a great article, one of many that substantiates UCONN as a top tier national brand. The revenue sharing component is detailed in the contract between UCONN and IMG. The first half of the contract can be found here and the second half of the contract can be found here. Go ahead and read it and get back to me. Also, shoot me a link that details the $2M-$6M number you provided.

It would still behoove UConn, to pick up the slack if they think something is lacking. To simply farm out the duties without worrying or caring if the contracted company is doing a good enough job is a losing strategy. If the contract was written that UConn couldn't do anything above what IMG did, then that was a poor job as well, for allowing themselves to be boxed in a corner like that. No matter how you cut it, you can't help but feel this school has not marketed athletics well.

There is language in the contract that enables UCONN to "effect" the quality of the end product, whether UCONN is actively engaged is another story. IMG does have a vested interest in executing, whether they are on behalf of UCONN is probably up for debate too.

What happens to UCONN's contract when it expires in several years? Do you really think it will have the same value as it did in the old Big East?

The value for the B1G is that adding Rutgers ensures Ohio State and Michigan and Penn State games are all televised in NYC.

The fact that you're too stupid to understand this is the real sign of an idiot.

Hathaway strikes again. UConn doesn't even bother to market itself, but outsources its sports marketing to a firm trying to maximize its own profits rather than UConn's fan base.

If you say so. Sure wish we could trade places with you guys.
I dunno about you RU folk but I'll gladly take cheering on a team that has a shot at winning titles in bball and a conference title in fball over cheering my team on knowing we're gonna be curb stomped each game. Sure the money will be nice for you guys but we'll be there soon enough. Difference is, in bball we'll still be competing for titles while you guys will will still not be.
