OT: You Like the Cover More Than the Original Song

Woodstock - Matthews Southern Comfort.

Great take on the Joni Mitchell original:

Traditional song, released by Kingston Trio in 1959. Made famous by the Beach Boys.

On a previous 'cover' music thread someone posted this version of Sloop John B and I thought it was excellent.
If I knew who linked it I would give them the credit.

Yeah, that was me, on a thread entitled "Young people sing old songs." Maybe we can do that again this summer. There are so many excellent young performers on Youtube. I am envious.

Just recently heard this (mostly) acapella version of Black Velvet. Really liked it. Never realized the song was a tribute to Elvis. ( turn captions on )

Another Sina - Victoria K cover - Black Velvet. If I remember correctly Victoria K is only 13 at the time that this was done.

A couple years ago Elton John and Miley Cyrus participated in Metallica's "Blacklist" project with a great rendition of "Nothing Else Matters".
Very recently Elton John was honored with the Gershwin Prize and Metallica performed Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding at that ceremony.
I wasn't listening to much Metallica 'back in the day', but since the Blacklist compilation I'm paying them more attention.

Same with Miley Cyrus; her antics a few years ago didn't impress me but I really like her in Nothing Else Matters.

And now for something completely different.

Miley Cyrus covering a George Clooney song.

Man Of Constant Sorrow

I've read that "Man of Constant Sorrow" is a traditional folk tune. See Man of Constant Sorrow - Wikipedia.

In the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou," Clooney's voice was dubbed by Dan Tyminski, the great guitarist of Alison Krauss and Union Station. Here's a version of the song sung by AKUS:

Fair and Tender Ladies - Manhattan Transfer

This one goes way back, lots of renditions, but I sure love this version by these guys:

"Pancho and Lefty - originally written and done by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson."

Nope. this was written by Townes Van Zandt and appeared on his album The Late Great Townes Van Zandt in 1972. Haggard & Nelson covered the song in 1984.

Ooops - nwhoops nailed this before i scrolled through 10 pages - excellent work eagle eye!

A Neil Young classic - every bit as relevant as when he wrote this (IMO). I LOVE the De Grootste Band's version - both genders, all ages...this is a shining example of music bringing people together.

second version (a bit more candid):
