Well Lee Lewis finally did it.
I'm cancelling my print subscription. I've cut off my twitter follows. The newspaper can go ahead and die.
Today's College Football commentary - kickoff week:
"Be upbeat on the Huskies"
Sounds great right? Catches your attention wants to make you read?
Here's the opening.
By Lee Lewis Republican-American
It is all too common (and frankly, too easy) to poke fun at the UConn football program. Or worse, to disregard it totally.
'When we see public campaigns to sell discounted tickets to the season opener, or take note of the chronically late-arriving and early-leaving Rentschler Field crowds, the conclusions we draw are not positive.
People just don't care about the team. People in the Northeast don't understand what it's like to be a college football fan. People humor the school by pretending to care, while not so secretly counting the days until basketball begins.'
Doesn't get any better than that, actually encourages people to leave sports events early "to beat traffic on i-84"
After all that garbage, he predicts an 8-4 season. May as well have just said - ignore UConn football, Lee - it's what your paper does.
The article is the biggest piece of garbage on uconn football to date from that rag. The paper can die. Sports are what keep a newspaper alive right now, just like TV.
The greater waterbury area, and naugatuck valley is one of the most dedicated youth football communities in the entire state. We're talking about 100,000+ people in the city alone, plus the entire communities up and down the valley, that are served by this paper.
Disgusting.
Cancelled.
Sports page will be in the litter box as soon as I get up.
I hope you're reading Lee.
