It's way too early to call any conference race in women's college basketball, but NC State and Louisville play Thursday in a game that might decide the ACC's regular-season champion. As was the case the past two seasons, the Wolfpack (7-0) and Cardinals (5-0) are atop the league, and both are Final Four contenders again. NC State won the regular-season and ACC tournament final matchups last year. In 2020, Louisville won the regular-season game but the teams didn't meet in the ACC tournament, won by the Wolfpack.

Huge game, for sure. With the uneven scheduling and potential cancelled games due to COVID, the outcome of this game has huge ramifications for the ACC race, as this is the only meeting between NC State and Louisville during the regular season.

For the record: For all its recent success at the ACCT, NC State has not won the ACC regular season since the 1989-1990 season.

Big game. I do not expect the committee to choose two teams from one conference as # 1 seeds - though it could happen (South Carolina and Tennessee possibly in the same position)

This game will probably have a great impact on seeding. I will be watching.

Huge game but I got my money on NC State. Louisville struggles for 1 or 2 quarters and then slowly gets it going later in games. Against tough teams, like a NC State, that is not a good thing to do NC State is too good of team. They are well coached. They got talent at multiple positions. NC State is going to squash any conversation about "which team is the best" in the ACC. NC State is that team.

Should'da done a poll

Great match up and pleased that ESPN will broadcast. In a game between two powers you gotta go with the home team, NCState.

I hope this game happens as schedule...... iffy weather forecast for Thursday.

It's amazing. We rarely ever get significant winter weather in this region...and now, we're facing our second winter weather event in six days!

Same in Columbia; school districts are already announcing virtual learning for Friday.

I've said it before, Louisville is the most overrated team in the country. They were trailing to BC and struggled at home to Syracuse. Nc st needs to give them a drubbing and put them in their place.

You've been banging that drum all year. Ready to walk it back a bit, or are you going to double down? If Louisville is the most overrated team in the country, what does that say about Michigan, UConn and now maybe NC State?

oh my friend that is why you wait for 4 quarters before posting

This post did not age well. :p

Well...can you concede Louisville looked pretty darn good leading NC State by double digits for almost the entirety of 3 quarters, before the 4th quarter happened?

I don't know what it was more a case of--NC State playing incredible in Q4 or Louisville playing awful. Maybe equal parts of both.

Didn't see the game.. Followed along on the espn tracker and saw that State was getting their arses kicked.. And was like.. State can't have nice things.

Checked the final score.. And was like.... What the heck... That score can't be correct.

I thought Walz made a coaching error trying to take the air out of the ball too soon in the 4Q. He called a timeout with 8:02 left in the 4Q after an Olivia Cochran mid-range jumpshot put an end to the 7-0 NCSt run that opened the quarter. On Louisville's next few possessions, once they broke NCSt's 3/4-court pressure, they refrained from attacking the basket, even though they had numbers at times. Instead they started working the shot clock, hoping to pass up decent looks for even better looks, but instead ending up with forced shots late in the shot clock and/or turnovers that simply fed into NCSt's transition game. All this to say that Louisville should have stayed a bit more aggressive on offense early in the 4Q. Their halfcourt offense wasn't good enough to keep up.

Hailey Van Lith's 4Q heroics have managed to cover up quite a few blemishes in other games, but it didn't work tonight.

For the record, I had NC State at #3 in my BY Poll and Louisville at #6. :)

There are tiers in cbb I think you can put

Ntl title contenders: Stanford, South Carolina, and Nc st atop from everyone else.

Anyone besides me thinks that State loses its next game?

It's Virginia Tech. Our recent battles with them have been epic. Aisha Sheppard usually goes off against NC State. Wouldn't surprise me.

But I got faith your NC State getting this win. Great game the other day against Louisville.
