...protect the Mens and Womens Championship feat!
I have been thinking the same thing this weekend and I realize how small minded it is. But our recent troubles have made this type of trivia matter. It would be insufferable for them to win the women's championship in addition to all the other great things that have happened for them. The only thing I was dreading more was ND beating us a fourth time and squaring off with UL in the championship game(Two teams headed for ACC to really ramp up ACC's women's basketball prowess. But thankfully the UCONN team we expected to see all year finally arrived in the tournament. They need to bury UL to restore the natural order of things in women's BB. We are UCONN and when we get to the championship game - we win! This group hasn't won yet and they are hungry to do it. UL better lace them up tight because it is going to be a wild ride! I expect that our defense will be very aggressive and UL will not get the cheap calls and the no calls that ND got keeping them in the game. Both teams will be physical and the refs will probably let them play. Our starters and bench will be too much for them to overcome UNLESS they have a Baylor type performance from 3. I don't expect to see that since that was a surprise and not part of the scouting report. Now it is and Geno will have a plan to neutralize it or greatly diminish it so it doesn't hurt us(like with ND). I don't know any other advantages they can exploit and I don't think they particularly match up well with our personnel. Bring #8 home ladies!!Absolutely.
Since that week back in November when we heard Ville got the ACC invite over us, they have:
Football
- won share of the Big East title and got the BCS bowl bid
- beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl
Men's hoops
- won share of the Big East regular season title
- won the Big East tournament
- won the National Championship
Women's hoops
- made it to the NCAA title game
In short, life's been gravy for them.
Hope the ladies bury them tomorrow and protect our 2004 double-title.
