For many years -- more than I care to think about -- I've enjoyed women's college basketball, UConn-style. While I'll watch the men's NCAA tournament sometimes, especially if an upset is possible, I've never been that big a fan. And it's probably just me, but I find the NBA unwatchable. Lately, since the WNBA expansion, the Caitlyn Clark phenomenon, and more UConn players going pro (including Paige, of course), there's an increasing temptation to transfer some allegiance to the women's pro game. In truth, I watch the scores and the headlines to see how our UConn alumnae are doing. But the recent trend toward rough play and outright violence in WNBA games has me thinking I'll probably never want to watch. There's probably a market among some fans for bringing the WWE to the WNBA, but still.....

Some coaches and players are saying it's the refs, and for sure, refs in the women's game are often second-rate. Still, it's hard to believe the coaches couldn't so something about the violence, perhaps suggesting to their players that, pretty please, don't engage in hair-pulling or punching, at the very least. Whatever it is, I find this recent trend to be dusturbing and really hope it doesn't spread down to the college games. It is not the kind of hoops I want to watch. So I won't.

Just one guy's opinion.

Don't absolve the league itself, ie. executives/management. They could put the kibosh on this kind of behavior if they wanted to. Apparently they don't want to.
