My comment to "Justin", the author:
"While I appreciate sentiment, and agree with the premise, you just HAVE TO get the name of the team right to be credible. It's "Sun" like the casino, not "Suns" like the NBA team in Phoenix (the team is associated with the Mohegan Sun casino and plays in their arena). Also, it would be helpful to potential new WNBA fans to mention the unique playoff format designed to ensure the best teams, regardless of conference are in the mix, that the last few regular season games are generally meaningful, and that the focus is on the final series. Last year's Lynx/Sparks final series was epic by any objective basketball fan standard.

These are the absolute best female basketball players in the world and comparisons to the skills exhibited by NBA players are not valid any more than speculating about Serena William's chances against Roger Federer is. The league is now 20 years old, and if compared to the NBA at 20 years is doing much better than they get credit for.

Thank you for your positive attention to the WNBA. Much appreciated."

I've been a fan since the first season, but I used to find that many games were unwatchable. Generally speaking, the teams with UConn players played better basketball, while others played an unattractive brand of basketball. In the last few years, that has changed. Connecticut and Chicago are fun to watch. Los Angeles, though I don't like them, plays well under Brian Agler. Seattle plays well with the starters. Minnesota has played well most of the time since Maya arrived.

I'm looking forward to seeing Seattle at the Mystics tomorrow. Go Sue! Go Stewie! Go Kaleena!

Personally I'd love to see dunking made illegal in the WNBA or WBB in general! The ignorant "talking suits" make it sound that a female dunking somehow legitimizes WBB and makes it ok to watch! The men announcers go nuts when a Woman dunks. "They can do some things that the men do!"
You'll NEVER see a UCONN player dunk in a game as the players know if they miss, Geno will kill them! Also dunking is the biggest, "LOOK AT ME!" in BB and UCONN is all about team BB! They've had players that can dunk, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Stewie, among others and in their 4 years never dunked once in an NCAA game! WBB is great without the theatrics!

I love the dunk... and I think the WNBA players do as well. We have "video" of Tina Maya and Stewie dunking... they love trying, great athleticism

Not true. Coach Auriemma is totally supportive of and has been consistently encouraging of women dunking. He may not believe in its importance/relevance as far as making the WBB game popular, but he has never discouraged his players from doing so.

Actually, Geno had suggested that the rims be lowered to increase dunking as a means to increase interest.

I am very glad this idea has not really caught on. Clearly, a good dunk can energize the players and the crowd but I think this is
mainly due to how rare it is.

This is Stewie unsuccessfully attempting a dunk vs SMU, a game which we won 90-37...

The set up of the dunk near the end of the All star game this year was fun for all, but it apparently had to be set up to happen. The worst thing in basketball, men's or women's game, is an ugly dunk fail imo.

Terrible idea and lots of female stars rightly rejected it out of hand at the time. Wanna do something for the game, junk the smaller ball.

I now live in basketball country (UNC, Duke, and NC State). I hear constant discussion of MBB among adults, but almost never discussions of WCC and NEVER about the WNBA. I watch WNBA games on TV and in most cases they play to near empty arenas (despite some attempts to put the fans on one side of the court). The SUN games I went to regularly were pretty well attended because they had UCONN players, but mostly because the Mohegan Sun gives thousands of free tickets to gamblers. Face it ! In today's world of spectacle, most people find WCC boring. I don't know how to change this. Just sit back and enjoy watching what is available to you.

I basically agree with you, although I wouldn't outlaw it. To me, it's OK when it's done occasionally. But when a game becomes a dunkfest, it loses my interest. It's one reason I like the women's game more. I don't want the women's game to become just like the men's game. And it bugs me the fuss they make over dunking in the women's game. It can be fun, but when overemphasized, it diminishes the other great qualities of women's basketball. Which is all pretty much a rewording of what you said.

Roger G- - - I agree with you, I don't want WBB to become just like the men's game, not even a little bit! And I think my reaction is to announcers who go crazy with a dunk emphasizing it's importance!
WBB doesn't need the dunk to make it legit and give a reason to watch the games!

I was in Europe several years ago during the women's World Cup. Nobody even knew it was happening. When I asked someone about it, he said basically, "We follow football, not women's football."

As for the W -- every game is available on season pass, which means every game is broadcast. Why doesn't NBATV carry more games? How many people would rather watch Tom Chambers from 25-30 years ago rather than Breanna Stewart or Candace Parker NOW? If the NBA isn't deliberately keeping the W down, I don't really understand why the NBA isn't promoting the W more.

It's sort of heretical to point this out, but being a heretic, here goes: Did anyone see Geno's body language and vocals when asked the question of whether he'd coach in the WNBA? Like he'd just chewed a bad clam!
