For the 2025 WNBA All-Star game, UConn WBB has
  • 3 former college teammates in Stewie, Napheesa and Gabby
  • And, Paige the rookie who doesn't play like one
  • Two #1 overall draft picks and the other two high first round (Gabby 4th, Napheesa 6th)
A quick glance at the complete list of players shows the following multiple representations from their colleges:

4 - UConn (Stewie, Napheesa, Gabby, Paige)
3 - South Carolina (Wilson, Boston, Gray)
3 - Notre Dame (Diggins-Smith, Young, Citron)
2 - Oregon (Ionescu, S. Sabally)
1.75 - Stanford (Ogwumike, 3/4 for Iriafen)
1.5 - Maryland (Thomas, Reese)

I don't see any other school with more than 1, do you?

The UConn 4 will be around for several more years, with Stewie the first to retire? But who can potentially add to them???

2 from Oregon (Sabrina and Satou)

If you're doing partials, Maryland could have 1.5 with Alyssa Thomas and Angel Reese (2 years).

It's part of their whole College experience, growth or not.....so, yes I think it is fair.

If Azura makes it one year, definitely same.....credit to Duke (or not, for slow growth than expected but I defaulted to positive credit for the year - it gets complicated otherwise - the the player is what she is in becoming an all-star).....

Does anyone know if there had ever been 3 rookies chosen for the All-Star game? Two?

It is surprisingly a good rookie class, although Dominique Malonga is being eased slowly into the action by the Storm (of course, they have Ezi). But Paige's fellow rookies with the Wings showed they are no slouches when the coach started four rookies and the three guards all scored in double figures.

I was just reading an article about whether or not the WNBA should lower the age of eligibility for American-born players, and I was reminded that both Jackie Young and Satou Sabally left college without graduating, so if we're giving colleges partial credit for their All-Stars, we need to dock Notre Dame and Oregon .25 each. ;)

By the time Stewie retires, I’m confident Sarah will be an All-Star. Maybe as early as her Rookie year.

UConn should be at 5 this year as Azura was absolutely snubbed, possibly in favor of Iriafen. The Coaches did a huge disservice not voting her in.

Gray played 1 year at SC and 2 years at UNC. Does SC get 2.25 years instead of 3?

But I’m bummed that she’s on Clark’s team. I was hoping that all 4 Huskies would be on Phee’s!
Ditto. I was hoping, in fact, all four would be on floor at the same time to remind everyone that UConn WBB flourishes in the pros as well.

Thrilled for the 4 Huskies. IMHO Sykes is deserving and one of Citron/Iriafen should have been left off. Frankly, both should have been left off. Also hard to argue against Hamby who is having a great season, but 2 off of a pretty bad LA team probably wasn't going to happen. McBride was deserving too.
