-> Evers has made eye-opening plays with his arm since preseason camp began. He showed some of what he can do on the run Tuesday, providing an opportunity for some run-pass-option and more variance in new coordinator Gordon Sammis’ offensive system. He seems to be the favorite to win the starting job over last year’s season-opening QB, Joe Fagnano.
“He’s fast, he can run, got a cannon of an arm, makes the right decisions and he’s got that swagger that you want in a quarterback, so I’m glad he’s on our team,” Bell said. “He’s one of those quarterbacks, he can make you miss (on the run). He can run by you, he can run around you – I tell him don’t do it but he says he can run through you. I wouldn’t advise it, but he can do a lot with his legs and I think it’s gonna help us.” <-
-> While there have been some setbacks – there always are in preseason camp, especially with a new coordinator and this many transfers (27 total) – players feel the offense has steadily improved over the last three weeks.
“I think just the offense (is) becoming more consistent, making a lot of plays, finding what’s gonna work, what we might have to work on a little more before Saturday,” Bell said. “I think just making those plays, building the chemistry with the quarterbacks to receivers, quarterbacks to tight ends, running backs to the O-line, I think we’re taking steps in the right direction.” <-
