A (possible) topic to bat around while waiting for the McDonald's game and, then, the Final Four weekend.

Jonathan Tsipis -- who spent nine years working with Muffet McGraw before taking over George Washington for four years -- will be introduced as the new head coach at Wisconsin on Thursday. UW Athletic Director Barry Alvarez -- a former Irish coach (football) himself before heading to Madison -- said he was looking for a candidate who had worked with a successful, long-standing coach.

With that in mind, where does GW -- now a firmly re-established mid-major -- go with its next HC choice? They hired Tsipis before he had head-coaching experience, but had worked with McGraw on recruiting and game plans. Where do they go now? Do they try to find gold with the Irish again? Or do they look at another established program? Three ideas to toss around:

- ND's Niele Ivey, who -- like Tsipis -- was also McGraw's main recruiter?
Would be a bear to lose her prowess as a recruiter coordinator and point-guard coach, but at some point it's time to make the leap for her.
Or, a former Irish player, specifically:
- Megan Duffy, now in her second stint as an assistant to Kim Barnes Arico, this time at Michigan (after doing the same at St. John's). Duffy also worked as Tsipis' top assistant at GW his first few years and recruited/coached a number of GW's top guards. This year she's worked with Katelynn Flaherty, Michigan's break-out guard.

Looking at other top programs, what about:
- Shea Ralph, who has now been at UConn for 8 years. She's learned from the best (both Geno and Chris), has high visibility and has obviously shown that she works well with guards.

On a thread a few weeks back, I saw some discussions of where/when Shea might go. GU strikes me as a good first coaching program that could parlay into a big job -- see Mr. Tsipis. Plus, in this case, it's not in bad shape at all...their big center is leaving, but three starters return.

Thoughts?

Ralph and Ivey have to be two of the most coveted coaches in women's basketball. Both of their programs soared to new heights when they came on board (ex. UCONN in the 8 years before Ralph went 264-27, with Ralph they are 296-12), they've each had many years of mentorship under the two premier coaches in WCBB, and both were outstanding collegiate players in their own right. Both also have the personalities to be a great head coaches. If both are wanting to take over their alma mater in the next 10-15 years, they'd be smart to make the jump, get a nice pay day, prove themselves as head coaches and put themselves in a spot to take over when the legends finally step aside.

JMUs Kenny Brooks is headed to Virginia Tech. He should make the Hokies relevant. Great coach!
